Hi Nail,
Is it possible that George Pell knew about pedophiles but didn't contact the police?

Its altogether possible he is one or at least living vicariously through his team of child raping priests!

Classic nail and bobby show;

>>> Nail and bobby go on and on about how bad the church is, posting one after another in agreement in their own little conversation. Of course the whole time they are speaking to each other over messenger, making the whole posting conversations on the forum a show for everyone else and therefore a total waste of time and space.
>>> They get so worked up, nail starts making false accusations about other members and goes off on a tangent ignoring what the thread is actually about.
>>> The next day others come on and see the fake and idiotic accusations nail has been making. These are proven to be false, and nail is shown to be a trolling liar.
>>> Nail then changes the topic, looking for any reason to ignore anything that is said and get off as many insults as he can. This is useless and he only makes a fool of himself, so he gets on messenger asking for help.
>>> like clockwork, bobby comes in; agrees with everything nail has said and tells everyone else to apologize to nail. Both then masturbate each other thinking no one can see what a couple of bum thumping knob jockeys they are.

Yes, this is a typical nail and bobby show.

Quantum,
That's just your sexual fantasy.
I am not now nor have I ever been a homosexual.

Nail has never been proven to be false.
I have found a few examples where he was slightly wrong & pointed that out.
This is however very rare.
One thing he doesn't do is support the Catholic Church - like you.

I read data that said 50% of abusers are from the family, and only about 50% of cases are actually reported.

Scary stuff.

A lot don't get reported so that wheel-chair time comes as a surprise!

Many martial arts instructors were abused and put their abusers in permanent disability!

O'Farrell's idea that the church should be legally required to report confessions of child molesting by priests is daft.

Doesn't it occur to him that this would simply result in priests not confessing?

There is a difference between not knowing, and knowing and doing nothing about it.

The confession is a difficult topic for me, as the sactinity of it can work one of two ways.  Confession lets the Preist try and guide the person to do the right thing, but one of two things happen
1 - People confess, feel better about it but dont listen to the priests advice. or
2 - Or they take their advice and hand themselves in.

If taking away that away means less seek the church for help for fear of being dobbed in, does the situation have the potenital to get worse before it gets better.

Its a pandora's box.

Anybody who does something wrong and thinks telling a priest about it is likely to have the slightest effect on the inherent wrongness of it or that if there was a god that he isnt already aware of it is frankly rather stupid. The Catholic church even by the rather low standards of other religious groups is about the most shameless manmade scam preying of stupid peoples fears of what happens after they die. As far as im concerned a priest that knows of a crime particularly a serious one that is likely to be repeated and does not report it is either an accessory before or after the fact and should be prosecuted!

Yeah they would prolly stop confessing but they would also lose their absolution. They would go to hell because they didnt confess. If they are true believers that should deter them.

So the pope sends his first Twitter message.

What did he say?

Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of you from my heart.

Many were waiting for an apology.

taser the bastard Wink Wink,

the pope and the priesthood will become increasingly marginalised from the church (at least i hope so)
just as the political leadership SHOULD become increasingly marginalised from our lives .

both groups exist for their own good . they offer little to their constituencies
