Like all booms that come to an end the mining boom is no exception !!

Given that Australia is now one of the most expensive places to do business has any of these pollies planned for the post mining boom in Australia ?

Doesn't look like it !!

Get ready for the tough times because the honeymoon is over Sad

We should make electric cars.

I remember as a kid Scaletrix was the sh1t. We could make millions of them and export them world wide.

Australia could be world leaders in the manufacture of electric cars.

Anyway you couldn't even sell your arse down StKilda let alone put together a kit car.

As it is Australia is a world leader in breading halfwitts like you who have absolutely nothing to offer.

Don't think that has much a do with mining really, mining was still only a small part of the economy at its peak

I was just trying to be helpful.

I know you are too poor to buy an electric car now, but if we built millions of them we should get the price down to about cost of a can of coke and you can maybe go halvies with bobby.

I love electric cars, I could talk about them for years and years, but alas I too do not own one; damn you Jeep for making cool 4WDs.

You should start a petition now that all these mines are shutting down due to the mining bust, we could divert all that manpower into electric car manufacture. I'm sure Scaletrix won't mine (LOL) if we have a go.

The dollar will drop. Interest rates will drop. Other industries will pick up.

look its not over ,but mining (like all commodity production) is fairly volatile.  it always has been.

if you look at say a woolworths share price over 10 years and plot it against a mining company you'll see the fluctuations.

its also very open to manipulation. china can stockpile the stuff and then just switch off demand , then re negotiate contracts for lower prices.

if woolies and coles can drive a commodity like milk thru the floor, its really no different with the big players like nations.

anyway , it will bounce along.
australia would be wise not to rely totally on commodities.  it leaves you at the whim of other markets.

FD,

Which industries & why?

Retail is dying, car industry is dying, manufacturing is dying, farmers are literally dying, tech is dying off quickly, forestry it too expensive

everyone is in debt...

ALMOST EVERYTHING WE BUY ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS IS OWNED BY A MINUTE FEW FOREIGN CONGLOMERATES.

The only thing that can bounce back is tourism and fisheries and we will probably see a lot of that become foreign owned.

whilst there is a certain truth to that , we still have some things we could be very good at.

the young guy who won "barista of the year" from melbourne has opened 18 coffee shops in south korea and is going gang busters.
remember kylie minogue one year made more money than BHP.

we should pour money into education (and not just into the lower end of the spectrum)  to me gonski $6 billion is more pressing than NDIS $6 billion but to provide opportunities for all to go as far as they can, not just to try and drag the bottom up to the cream.

israel invests 4% gdp in high tech, we do 1/4 of that.
we need to

1 invest more in these higher end areas.
provision of high end health care, high end education and agriculture (including gm )
2 introduce a culture of small business being able to fail without feeling ostracized. the americans have a good culture of failure, you just get up and go again.
3 share schemes to encourage workers to get shares as part of start ups to encourage them to feel ownership of the venture.
again, this will require the ATO to back off and not tax the crap out of small business as it gets going. again if these shares go up, workers should get capital gains tax exemptions for say 5 years.

there's a lot we can do.
if you dont want to be the white trash of asia

learn an asian language,
get rid of this middle class welfare mentality
keep government regulations away as much as possible.

dont try to pick winners like electric cars or whatever.
venture capitalists will always be better at that then bureaucracies full of people who have not worked in business.

never give up.

persist, persist, persist.

These are examples of what we don't need, large amounts of money going to a tiny percent of the population who provide no benefits to our society.

There are a lot of things we should be pouring money into but in the financial system we operate under its not exactly a realistic option.
I agree that there is money that gets wasted (not ndis in my opinion) but its up to the public to TELL the politicians where to direct it.

Quote:

we need to
Israel also gets most of that money given to them without debt.

Not possible with the amount of private debt.

The better option is co-ops.

Thats a very dangerous thing because your thinking about the majority but forgetting its going to help the minority a lot more then anyone else, and not in a good way.

You seem to forget the system we are operating under.

Private debt = 2 trillion
