Given that Gillard has had to do a massive policy backflip over the issue of illegal immigrants , and had to adopt a Coalition policy no less, I am predicting a jump in the polls for the Coalition by as much as five points and a similar drop in the polls by the ALP. I also reckon Abbott will increase his lead as preferred PM over Gillard.

I just went through the Liberal Party web site and I can't see any policy on illegal immigrants can you tell me what it is so I can vote in your poll.

I never vote in something I don't know about so please tell what the policy is.

And Australians are less because of this.

the greens had a chance to do something ..but their obstinacy and stubbornness means they did nothing ..don't cry about it now .. they knew the options if they did nothing , and they did it willingly .... they are just as guilty of any dehumanising and regressive policies as the others

We did, we forwarded lifting the number of refugees from Indonesia and Malaysia during the last debate and the olds voted against this humane outcome.

The olds are out to destroy the UN Refugee Convention and so have millions die across the globe due to them having no protection.

The consequences of the amount of blood on the old's hands will be revealed in time.

Australians are smaller today because we via the olds took the coward's path.

in the end the greens did nothing ... all that hooha and whoop whoop was for naught .... the other parties got exactly what the greens didn't want ...good work greens, you should be proud ... you had a chance to do something and chose to do nothing .. don't take the moral high ground, the greens are just as guilty as everyone .

Who says Greens didn't get what they desired when we don't see this as an end.

Same as the Pacific Solution One was reversed, so will Pacific Solutions Number Two.

Greens will win, as will human rights.
Australians will not reduced themselves down a path forever. German's path down nazism ended too.

We can now torture refugees, as we can torture Aboriginals. Who will be next in line for the olds

You are not part of the game.

The major parties are not listening to you, neither is the public.

It's all your own fault.

Julia Gillard - twice selected, never elected.

Yes it is our fault in that Greens do not support torture, Greens support human rights, Greens are compassonate and Greens will not take part in destroying the refugee convention.

As Greens were the lone voice on Afghanistan, so to Greens will be the lone voice on this issue. Greens are giving progressive Australians a voice.

Greens are the real opposition to the fictional differences between the Lib Lab wings of the government.

It was obvious to all and sundry that Labor would cave in for Howard's Pacific Solutions.

The coalition new it.

Labor new it.

The Australia public new it

And the Greens new it.

Labor stuffs up everything they touch, haven't you noticed?

no, it is the greens fault that they didn't negotiate the best outcome POSSIBLE and decided to stick to their moral high ground and aim for an outcome that was never going to happen ..... you remind me of the teenager who when asked what he wants from life, says I want to be a multi millionarie, and when told he has to start at the bottom replies 'no, i expect everyone to give me my millions, why should I settle for less'

Also with the poll, why no option opposite to your opinion.

The opposition could go backwards considering Abbott's unpopularity.

Umm, what unpopularity? Abbott is preferred PM and the Coalition has a huge lead over the ALP. I didn't include an option for the Coalition to go down in the polls because that simply ain't gonna happen!

Why should it go up at ALL?

The Coalition have NOTHING to be proud of.

You think? They've held true on their policy for over ten years and now Houston has vindicated that stance. Rudd screwed up in 2007 and now Gillard and Bowen have contributed by refusing to act until now. I'd say Abbott has a lot to feel proud of, and rightly so. Gillard and Bowen should hang their heads in shame.

They've held true to a policy that I opposed at inception and have consistently opposed ever since.

As I said, they've NOTHING to be proud of.

Perhaps the definition of 'proud' doesnt necessarily mean agreeing with your stance.

Exactly right. If you want to be part of the policy of the nation then you either get into governmet or you learn how to negotiate and compromise. If you dont, you will simply be ignored - like today. I couldnt even find out if the Greens voted against the legislation. Why? Because it doesnt matter and no one cares.

Balance of Power is ineffective if both parties agree. So you better learn how to be part of the solution rather then the morons on the cross benches that everyone ignores.
