SNAP ELECTION NOW
Jul 10th, 2012 at 10:25pm

Election Now

The right have been calling for an election now since Abbott won the last and then lost it in negotiate. So in a way you can feel for the righties with Abbott holding them all back

Now Labor is picking a fight with the Greens, and threatening to give both houses to Abbott.

All this is well know.

My suggestion is rather radical from current progressive thinking. What if Greens backed an election now. What if Greens put progressive voters to the test, will they vote for Labor so Labor can give their votes to Mr Abbott and Steve Fielding, and so Labor do a Democrats to themselves.

Is this an opportunity given to the Greens on a platter. When Labor loses the election, Labor will lose a lot more than anyone else. Greens on the other hand, with the demise of Labor become the alternative government within a decade.

Play hardball now, and it will destabilise Labor.

Had abbott won the election there would have been no need for negotiations.

Now Labor is picking a fight with the Greens, and threatening to give both houses to Abbott.

One or two Labor nutters mouthing off is stupidity not a move against the greens. The media and Libs are playing it trying to create a meaningful split between the Greens and Labor. This can only hurt both.

No Labor people with any brains are against the greens.

Grassroot Labor and Grassroot Greens, sure nothing has changes. We are still friends.

Yet Greens must now do what is best for themselves and that is calling Labor out on this and so test the progressive vote.

Longer this issue hangs, the more harm it will do for the progressive block.

Time for the progressives to select who will lead them in this millenium and then start a decade campaign of building back to office.

Greens_win,  I think you start more stupid threads than Macca.

But saying that, who does one vote for if you believe in market capitalism, and environmentalism. ?

In the lower house :Mr Abbott, via Labor

In the Senate, Steve Fielding via Labor

Obviously everyone has short memories and requires another dose of neo conism and extreme weather from climate change.

When progressive voters wake from their stupor, then they will realise what Labor did to you all.

It is now coming to a point where parliament is not big enough for both Labor and The Greens so one has to go.

Calling an election now will likely favour Greens more in the longer term.

Imagine how many major ALP members could be out of parliament within a couple of months.

You do not understand that if the Greens want an election they can basically call one?

They have the number, the number is 1 and they hold it.

If the one green calls for a no confidence motion in the government and the Liberals vote with him we have an election.

The statment is really silly and the rest of the post not much better. The greens currently hold one Lower house seat and that because of Liberal preferences.

After the next election they will be lucky to hold a lower house seat in the following decade.

Green will not call an election since we gave our word. Greens can put more scrutiny on legislation and demand greater changes. If these changes do not occur, reject it.

Labor will have to either become Greens' bitch for the rest of the term, or call an early election and lose most of it's MPs.

off twitter ~ newspoll
Most to blame for asylum-seeker policy impasse: ALP 32 L/NP 28 GRN 16

Best handle the asylum-seeker issue: ALP 17 (-4) L/NP 37 (-10) Other 13 (+1) None 12 (+5)

There is extreme anger in voter land directed at Labor and Labor has given the Greens an opportunity to distance ourselves from you lot.

No: The agreement is that the greens will not support a no confidence motion that they did not call themself.

The Greens are not Grass roots, they are strictly inner suburban trendy, yuppy chic and restricted to the concerns of a very narrow demographic... Cool

Martin, if you are going to have blog, I suggest you have it proof read first.

Having typos is fine on a forum like this one, but on a blog? No, it looks like it's written by a 14 year old trying to use big words.

First of all, no one party won the last election - hence the reason it was called a "hung" parliament. No party attained enough votes to claim the ability to form a government in its own right. Secondly, there was no negotiation because Bob Brown refused outright to have anything to do with Tony Abbott (and vice versa) and it was clear the Independents (if they can be called that) were behind Labor. Lastly, if the Greens put their weight behind a no-confidence motion from the Coalition against Labor and an election was held, Labor would almost certainly preference Labor last (as would the Coalition) with the following result:

- Labor would be wiped out
- Greens would lose one or possibly even two seats in the Senate
- Coalition would easily attain a majority in the House of Representatives and probably also have a slim majority in the Senate

So, while I don't envy the Greens for the probable result of an early election, if they wanna go ahead and do that then by all means please do so!
