Fair enough the union leaders are ALP members so will fight this for their own personal promotion. Yet the rank and file are more interested in work and working conditions.

SHUTTING down the coal industry over time, under Greens policies, would cost almost 200,000 jobs and smash Australia's economy.





An analysis by RMIT economists Sinclair Davidson and Ashton De Silva will be released today showing that for every coal job lost, 6.5 jobs would be lost in other areas.

Prepared for the Minerals Council of Australia, the report also found at least $29 billion would be ripped from the economy and a $6 billion black hole created in the Federal Government's Budget.

"These magnitudes of loss are not trivial," the report's authors write.

"The Greens, and to a lesser extent the Government, propose policies that are deliberately intended to disadvantage coal mining.

"We argue that, given the competitive nature of the world coal market, the costs of those policies will be incurred in Australia and will give rise to few, if any, global environmental benefits."

The report looks specifically at job losses associated with the shut-down of coal, and does not look at remedying factors or jobs created in other industries.

Latrobe Valley would be particularly hard hit.

Community groups and unions have warned that a careful transition to cleaner-energy production jobs is needed to avoid crippling some towns.

Because the Greens are forward thinking. They want to create more sustainable jobs for a future sustainable economy.

Smelly, cloudy old Germany created 200,000 jobs  with solar alone.

It is an upside down world when illegal boat people who will rely on welfare for years to come, are to be encouraged-but skilled people, ready to work on arrival are to be deterred and discouraged.
