Will Greens Get The Union Vote
May 18th, 2012 at 8:42am

UNIONS should back the Greens workplace policies at the next election because they offer the best protection for workers and reflect schemes from this week's Australian Council of Trade Unions congress, deputy leader Adam Bandt says.

Mr Bandt, the Greens lower house MP and workplace spokesman, told the Herald the party's policies, including making it easier for people to negotiate flexible working hours, better job security agreements, and requiring an employer to give a minimum notice of three days before locking out staff, were shared by the ACTU.

''I hope the new ACTU leadership faithfully tells its membership of the Greens' strong protection of peoples' rights at work. As we head towards the next election, Australians deserve honest information about who will best protect their rights at work,'' Mr Bandt said.

''When it comes to protecting peoples' rights at work, the Abbott-proof fence is painted Green.''

The Greens have bills in Parliament that Mr Bandt says will give people a better work-life balance, create a fairer bargaining system and make jobs more reliable and less insecure.

In February, Mr Bandt introduced legislation that would make it easier for workers and employers to negotiate working hours outside of the traditional nine-to-five regime so they could act as carers. The law would also use Fair Work Australia as an umpire if the sides were unable to come to a reasonable resolution.

Should the Unions support Greens because their policies are better for workers ... or the ALP because it suits the leaders in their ALP political career.

Who should the Union support?

If they can get Labor divorced from the Unions that would be a good thing.

The unions have too much political power. Voters are left with a choice between the conservative party and one that is held to ransom by internal union links.

hahahahahahahaha..

as the greenies tie themselves to backhoes.. and coal loaders... stopping any form of work.. I would think the unions voting green will be when the moon turns to green cheese and probably not even then..

if the greens have their way there will be no jobs to worry about they all create pollution.. or kill something..according to them

mind you doesnt stop them driving cars and flying in great big planes though.

even though that means trees being lopped to make a road or an airport..

How is the carbon tax class war when AGW inaction will reduce the wealth of all Australians.

Repeat, all Australians.

How is it class wars when everyone will suffer the consequences of the Right's inaction.
