It is so official.

How is John Howard going to be remembered again?

(Prediction: Howard Lovers will be scared stupid of this thread!)

*Sure....they're anti competitive as any subsidised job is.  It wouldn't be there without the tax payer.  Very damned difficult for a brainwashed collectivist to understand that I know....  (swaggy) *

DRAH, you will not get the right into a proper discussion on the economic record of the Howard era because most of them don't get it and think that turning in very average surpluses and failing to save adequately while creating a massive financial burden on future governments by failing to prepare or plan future infrastructure, the adequate funding and planning of health, education and tax reform and the crowning glory middle class welfare that has created the entitlement mentality and is now a budgetary diaster zone all adds up to financial brilliance.

Fair enough Smiley, OH i remember there was the complete lack of planning for the ageing population as well as a decade of neglect in mental health and disability support but they started the future fund to pay their super out.

Without a quote to Ken Henry actually saying that Australia has wasted the mining boom, or at the very least, a link to a report of such, from a credible source, you do not actually provide us with any reliable evidence that he even said that, DRAH.

I certainly believe that the Howard government was absolutely irresponsible, in the way that they chose to waste, so much of the massive windfall bonus to Tax receipts, that they received whilst in office, and would enjoy a discussion on that subject.
To see highly respected, and well credentialed experts, echoing similar sentiments would certainly add to the debate, and also may spark enough interest for some of our Howard supporting members to debate it with you.
However, DRAH, if you make yourself a joke to them, by just posting a whole series of Pro-Labor, "motherhood" statements, then you will never attract the debates you want.

Mining boom isn't over by a long shot, so with the perfect record of the labor government in implementing major policies and projects, everything should be squared away very soon.

CHRIS UHLMANN: Alas we have to finish but one last thing, have we wasted the mining boom?

DR KEN HENRY: That’s a question for future generations.

Read into that what you will. I'm pretty sure that Ken Henry believes we have wasted the mining boom.

What if no one has any use for our minerals bigole?

Mining bust???

mozza, why dont you make your point to this perennial idiot by combining his daily flood of one-liner threads into one or even better DELETING them until he starts a thread of some actual substance?

Thats a silly interpretation. he said 'i cannot be the judge of that nor can anny of us'. In otherwords we will rely on hindsight for the answer.

Only you could envisage a world without any need for steel, the single most important material to human civilisation.  Grin

I think we'll do alright for the next few years.
