Come out Greg, all is forgiven!

I know many Kiwis, and I was one, were livid about THAT underarm ball.

But having since been a victim of panic attacks and knowing that you do things doing those periods that you wouldn't otherwise have done, then it all becomes clear.

Chappell was tired, under pressure, and simply did something wrong on the spur of the moment. I once put my false teeth into the dishwasher, so I am on your range, Greg.

The true measure of the man was that he took his medicine when he came next to NZ, laughed when that bipolar Jeremy Coney turned up with a lawn bowl, and then sent on to a classic hundred that saw him cheered off the ground by people who a few hours earlier hated his guts.

But as for the other Chappell he is a lizard. When Glenn Turner was married to his beautiful Indian wife Sukhi, who went on to become Mayor of Dunedin Chappell greeted his arrival at the crease with the comment: "Here comes the curry buggerer!"

Then this slug now criticises other players for sledging. For once I am speechless.

Coney is undoubtedly one of the funniest men I have ever met. His brother has a winery in Martinborough, north of Wellington, where he produces very good expensive plonk. I have interviewed him several times and he is a hoot.

You can find him on:

So what if Greg Chappell sledged a Kiwi when he was playing cricket for Australia.....The comment seams quite tame to some I have heard and was done in an era where this sort of slur was not uncommon.....We have moved on since then and Greg Chappell coached the Indian team and moved on from his playing days.....Kiwi's will never forgive Greg Chappell for the underarm ball.....Now that was funny!!!

What is it about kiwis that so many feel the need to come here and talk down to the locals? It's understandable when they do it from home...

From what I've heard, the local Maori population in New Zealand are the most aggressive and racist people in the region...

I've heard them in the pub often enough recently (with so many over here) raving on about how much better it is in New Zealand... They're not big on getting irony it seems.

There seems to be a little confusion here. Ian Chappell sledged Turner not Greg. If you think that killing someone is acceptable because someone else some time might have killed somebody else, well, get help.

And if you reply that neither Chappell ever killed anyone my response will be to go away and come back when you feel better.

There are good and bad in every race and colour. I believe the finest people as a race are Aboriginals.

One time when I was in Sydney and decided to walk to the market. I wandered through what was a very rundown suburb. There were bunches of black people standing around sharing a cigarette of something or other. I grinned ad said "Hi". They offered me a joint, which, of course, I refused we chatted for a while and moved on. One guy with no teeth said he would drive me there but there was not much petrol in his car.

A few days later a cop told me I should have never gne into the neighborhood because it was very dangerous.

I suggested that maybe it was dangerous for him but not for me. I wasn't going into the hood to arrest anyone, baton them, taser them or trim their toenails.

Naturally since then policing methods of Redfern have been entirely reformed. Or so I was told.

Well the fact it was Ian Chappell is not surprising but the issue did not get airplay in Australia as it was a non event really.....As for the highlighted piece of your comment I have no idea what you are talking about....Perhaps it is you that should seek help???

I also have no problem with Aboriginal or Maori people....I also fail to see any relevance to the title of your thread.....what is your point???

Yep, didn't quite get the point. Ian Chappell was a rouge and these days is just a grumpy old man. The Chappell boys definitely had a nice dash of their grandfather in them. Good old Vic wanted to bowl bodyline back at the poms and see what they did. Tend to agree with him.

Phil, my point was that just because someone else does something wrong doesn't give anyone else the licence to do it.

If you think calling someone a "curry f u c k e r" is acceptable I don't. It is racist and crude.

Nothing wrong with a bit of sledging in cricket, calling someone a lucky bastard if he nicks the ball over the slips. But racist obscenity is another story. Chappell (Ian) is a mongrel.

Cricket is far too good a game to be dragged down into the gutter.

I agree about Ian Chappell.....I will not defend him and think he is a total wanker.....He was however a good captain but he lowered the standard of Australian cricket IMO!!!

I don't have a problem with anybody, race colour or creed (or politics) as long as they aren't trying to rob or harm me, my family or my mates.

As for sledging.  If one can't take a sledge, in any sport or life in general, no matter what it is, I suggest professional help or a change in career.  A sledge is designed to take your mind off the job at hand so by design the best sledges are going to be the most deplorable
