No i bring that point up quite often because the depth and breadth of that boom was global and probably the largest ever. It culminated in the largest crash of all time, where we suddenly realised how tiny the 20 billion surplus was in real terms when you are loosing 120+ billion in tax income over a few years and what the big sell off of our national asetts has cost the country as we now have to rebuild it. Never mind the record personal debt we were left with and the largest mortgage repayment to income ratio in the countries history.

Costello was an excellent accountant as i have said many times. I respect what he did and his discipline and control over Howards financial incompetence was well executed. But he is no treasurer, he has little vision and no inspiration. Best decision yet not to make him chairman.
