A poll in the Daily Telegraph shows an overwhelming majority are in favour of calling an election now. At present, 6111 (88.9%) want an election as opposed to a minute 763 (11.1%) who do not want an election.

Looks like Daily Telecrap readers are dumber than I thought.  Then again, maybe there were some three syllable words in the question, which would have made it unintelligible to the average reader of the Telecrap.

You don't need an election because of a hung parliament.  You don't need an election because of a leadership dispute.  You would need an election if no political party is able to form a viable government.

Is an incompetent party lead by an incompetent leader who is in bed with a lunatic minority party leader while they fight over who is going to be top loser a good enough reason?

I've closed this poll as it hasn't changed in over 24 hours. Clearly a majority want a new election. Sorry Labor/Greens supporters!

If the only alternatives are the nut-bar Greens or the negative, stuck-in-the-past
Coalition, then no, it's not a good enough reason.

EITHER alternative would be FAR more disastrous than what we have now.

A utopian, one-world-govt, airy-fairy dream on the one hand, or a return to the
austere and economically disastrous years of the late 70s-early 80s on the other?

No, thanks, I'll pass.......

In their defence they have been bombarded with propoganda telling them that this is what should happen on virtually a daily basis over about the last 15 months.

Umm, what has been stopping Labor supporters from registering their vote in the online poll. Don't cry foul just because you don't like the results of the poll - that's just stupid.

Ah yes I forgot your viewpoint.

The poor performance of the current Government is actually the fault of the Australian media!!!

Why should an election be held? Just because of a possible change of PM?

You don't vote for the PM. The constitution makes no mention of political parties and when it was drawn up they didn't foresee having just two major parties that could rule in their own right.

Hell, they don't have to have a PM from the party who has won the majority of seats. They could vote in an independent as PM if they wanted - or even weirder, Labor could vote in someone like Turnbull or even Abbott as PM is they so decided.

They could change PMs every month if they wanted to.

There still wouldn't be any actual grounds for calling an election.

To end this farce of a minority Government basically.

The Government can actually call an election right now if it likes.

This all has shades of NSW about it though.
A Government hangs on for as long as possible, even though they know full well they are going to lose and just delaying the inevitable.

Kevin Rudd himself stated "We are heading for rocks. If we have Julia Gillard as Leader we will definitely lose the next election."

I find it offensive to the people that a Government with no mandate is just hanging on like this.

You do not believe that long term media campaigns can impact opinion?

Tell people something often enough and a lot do start to believe it as being true.

The biased campaigns are clearly apparent and have been ongoing for a long time now.

Yes it does work.

Over the last 15 months any time something happens there are calls for an election, someone drops a sausage roll and we see headlines calling for an election.

This is the same media which seen no need to criticise another PM for illegally going into war based on lies or  had several ministers all receive 27 emails each over AWB and claimed to not know about it or taking the children overboard lie to an election backed by the media. The same media which barley mentioned that Mr Howard had promised to not introduce a GST.

I think you are seeing dead people when there aren't any.

Sure there are commentators that do not like this Government and comment from an intrinsically pro-Coalition view.
There are also left wing commentators who abhor the Coalition and Abbott as well.

You read some of Eddie McGuire for example on a sunday and find compliementary points about the Opposition. He's just one soft example, there are plenty more.

After the blood letting it will be up to Julia as to whether she wins the next election.
And lets be honest.. if she cant even beat Abbott given that after all his years as a senior minister in the Howard govt he has no achievments to his name, has no policies, no future vision for the country and is more negative than a suicidal Emo she doesnt deserve to win.

Australians don't deserve this disgusting, inpet, incompetent, chaotic, disastrous, shambolic, pitiful, so-called government. At least, at the very worst, it only has 1.5 years to go.

1. Julia cannot win, under any circumstance. No chance, no matter what happens.

2. Why would Tony release any policies when no election is coming in the very near future?

3. Is Tony negative? Of course, what is there about which to positive, of this government?
