Darwin - The Day Of Shame For The RAAF
Feb 19th, 2012 at 9:53am

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the day Australias military deserted and fled their posts in the face of a Japanese air assault on the strategic outpost town of Darwin.  Hundreds of RAAF servicemen fled in panic and cowardice in the face of enemy fire potentially leaving Australia defenseless to an invasion.  Yep, thats right - most of these were useless corrupt Corporate wealthfare types living off the fat of the land and their inherited privilege and when the day of decision came - they bolted into the desert never to be seen again, these same corrupt spineless cowards are back in control now...

Quote:
Australia Under Attack

Japanese air raids on Darwin and northern Australia, 1942-43

On 19 February 1942 mainland Australia came under attack for the first time when Japanese forces mounted two air raids on Darwin. The two attacks, which were planned and led by the commander responsible for the attack on Pearl Harbour ten weeks earlier, involved 54 land-based bombers and approximately 188 attack aircraft which were launched from four Japanese aircraft carriers in the Timor Sea. In the first attack, which began just before 10.00 am, heavy bombers pattern-bombed the harbour and town; dive bombers escorted by Zero fighters then attacked shipping in the harbour, the military and civil aerodromes, and the hospital at Berrimah. The attack ceased after about 40 minutes. The second attack, which began an hour later, involved high altitude bombing of the Royal Australian Air Force base at Parap which lasted for 20-25 minutes. The two raids killed at least 243 people and between 300 and 400 were wounded. Twenty military aircraft were destroyed, eight ships at anchor in the harbour were sunk, and most civil and military facilities in Darwin were destroyed.

Contrary to widespread belief at the time, the attacks were not a precursor to an invasion. The Japanese were preparing to invade Timor, and anticipated that a disruptive air attack would hinder Darwin’s potential as a base from which the Allies could launch a counter-offensive and at the same time would damage Australian morale. With Singapore having fallen to the Japanese only days earlier, and concerned at the effect of the bombing on national morale, the government announced that only 17 people had been killed.

The air attacks on Darwin continued until November 1943, by which time the Japanese had bombed Darwin 64 times. During the war other towns in northern Australia were also the target of Japanese air attack, with bombs being dropped on Townsville, Katherine, Wyndham, Derby, Broome and Port Hedland.

In the hours following the air raids on 19 February, believing that an invasion was imminent, Darwin’s population began to stream southwards, heading for Adelaide River and the train south. Approximately half Darwin’s civilian population ultimately fled. The panic in the town was repeated at the RAAF base, where servicemen deserted their stations in great numbers. Three days after the attack 278 servicemen were still missing. The exodus south (which later became known as ‘The Adelaide River Stakes’), and the looting and disorder which subsequently occurred, led the government to hurriedly appoint a Commission of Inquiry led by Mr Justice Lowe which issued two reports, one on 27 March and the other on 9 April 1942.

Yes I have stood my ground against these same born to privilege cowards all of my life.  I have looked them in the eye and taken authority over them, so I know how I would react and I know how these cowards always react - they will run out on this country with their bonuses every time.  They ran for their lives and civilian Australia took over and defended the nation - not the Government or the ruling class. The ruling classes will never fight , but send in the plebs to do the fighting, and the top end awards themselves medals.
It used to be different hundreds of years ago, when the leaders would be in the middle of the battles.
The RAAF men in Darwin could have been court marshalled if they acted cowardly.
Apparently the bombing of Darwin is a bit bit of a dark blot in Australias hystory, yet now the media brings it to the forefront again. Anything to sell papers and electronic news.

Many great armies in history have been routed when confronted by far superior forces.....The fact is most of these men returned to serve with distinction and valour in the ensuing battles and have been recognised by our nation is testament to their courage.....Many of the men who survived the attacks in Darwin did not see the end of the war and gave their lives defending our nation from a brutal and uncompromising enemy.....They where not cowards and deserve our respect!!!

Neither enemy faces, nor the mothers that love them, come to mind when one is thinking of nothing but endeavouring to survive. Philosophising about war is useless under fire.

These wealthfare cowards stationed in the military outpost town of Darwin deserted - fled into the desert and were never seen again, the only thing the deserters served with distinction afterwards is the magicians union and Harold Hudini with their amazing, never to be seen again disappearing act.... TongueThese privileged ruling class deserters have been the butt of the national joke for several decades now - hell they are the national joke and todays corrupt wealthfare class are their descendants...This is the real reason they are so desperate to rehabilitate their disgrace...

Ask my Dad, he will tell you - nobody ever heard or saw those rich cowards who deserted their posts ever again... Cool

This was the day the Government and the ruling class - the "regime" fled into the desert and left Australia defenseless after making a killing selling all of our minerals to Japans munitions industries ("Pig Iron Bob"...) go ahead, ask them, they know its true, they know its their shame...

only to prove that we do not know enough about our own history. There were 46 attacks on Darwin, not to mention Broome, Exmouth Port Headland, Derby, Wyndham, Batchelor, Katherine, Bowen, Townsville, Mossman and  Cape York Peninsula.

Who knows how many dirty deals those corporate pirates were doing with the Japanese up North as they conducted the "pig Iron trade boom" with Japan, just prior to the attack...but they all fled their posts very rich with mega mining bonuses and mining revenue...of that you can be sure....'

Aren't you one of those people? Your username "corporate_whitey" suggests that you belong in the same class. Who is to say you won't pack your whole life in a suitcase and fly off to Canada?
