LABOR powerbroker Graham Richardson says Labor will lose the next election.

The former Hawke Government minister says the electorate had stopped listening to Prime Minister Julia Gillard, blaming carbon tax and her inability to empathise with “heartland’’ voters over issues such as cost of living.

“I doubt that Labor can win the next election now,’’ he told Channel 7 this morning. “I just can’t see it happening (a Labor win).’’

“You get to a point when people simply stop listening.’’

He said if there was an election held this Saturday, polling was so bad he doubted there would be a Labor member standing in Queensland.

Did Howard say:

"There will be no Workchoices under a government I lead"

He said nothing before the election....he did not take it to an election and forced it through both houses to cut basic entitlements to most Australian's.....You see no problem with this attack on low and middle income earners yet you support reducing high end subsidies that are unsustainable.....You are devoid of common sense IMO!!!

And the point about "taking it to an election" is based on the fact that Gillard made the no carbon tax promise during an election and reneged on it immediately when she got into office

And the elephant in the room is that Gillard did not renege on anything.
To do that she would need to lead a majority government, she doesn't.
The Carbon Tax was a concession to form government.

Oh sorry, I wasn't aware that she said "There will be no carbon tax under the majority government I lead".

I totally supported workchoices.

It was about bringing the employer and the employee into more direct contact to best suit the new global market place.

It was about restricting the interference of third parties in the employment process.

I have had an employment contract all my working life in the roles I have had.
I am yet to work for a company with smaller revenue than $3.5bn.
So if you are worried about level playing fields - you'd hardly call me and the employer in the same ballpark would you?
But it works fine.

I tend to get market rate - which everyone else should anyway.

Workchoices was about getting a more fluid workforce and cutting red tape to enable employers to respond to global market pressures easier.

it was a good idea - and the Unions just chucked mud at it because they could see it would end their gravy train.

So its only dishonest if it fails the Andrei test of being a good idea.

You seem to have a disconnect between understanding the point and what you like, seems it is only dishonest to not tell the truth if you don't like the policy the lie is based on.

Before the 2004 election when asked Mr Howard said there was no plan to make significant changes in IR.

After he had a senate majority we got workchoices, exactly the same as how we got a fixed price on carbon except Gillard’s hand was forced and the Liberals just chose to do what they had always wanted to.

If you look at means testing the rebate she said the rebate would stay and it is in fact still there, nobody said it would never ever get tweaked.

All the media's fault?

They are playing an unproportinally large role in that perception.

They are still printing the critisisms multiple times every day around 15 months after the incident on the carbon price.

Compare that responce to how they Handled some of Howards fibs which almost went un reported.

Most people are not even aware that he had committed to no significant changes to IR in 2004 and in 1998 the media hardly mentioned that Mr Howard had promised to never ever introduce a GST.

Do you think for a secong had the media gone on and on about that repeating the lie many times each day for over 12 months that he would have had any credability either.

On one side we seen the media year after year try their hardest to bury the majority of the lies told and now we see the exact opposite with the media even happy to except and print that the truth is a lie.

You know children were not thrown overboard the PM was telling they were right up to the election and that the media failed to report the truth till after the election.
