Labor's over-inflated Nauru costings
Feb 4th, 2012 at 6:31pm

Labor has highly over-inflated the cost of reopening and running Nauru, with the Opposition releasing costings showing it could be reopened at a third of the cost that Labor claims ($2 billion).

Mr Morrison called Labor's costings a joke, saying that Opposition costings were prepared by a company that was directly involved in setting up and operating the facility for eight years.

As usual, Labor is telling lies. Full story below...

BAHAHHH! The opposition criticising the government's costings?? This is the opposition that has gone from black hole to black hole? That's funny!

That is all Labor's budgets are - black holes. There's no money in them!

This is the way Labor does it's budgets

It will under estimate it's own costings and over estimate the Coalition's costings. Of course they are wrong in both instances

Opposition immigration spokesman Scott Morrison on Saturday released a report showing the centre at Nauru could be re-established with 1350 beds at a capital cost of $95 million, with an estimated annual maximum operational cost at full capacity of $202.5 million

So scott thinks he can do it cheaper today then it was in 2002?

Poor Scotty is one of the Liberals weakest points - quoting his opinion is like listening to Stephen Conroy from Labor - gauranteed to get you the wrong answer.

Who should we believe... a independent department who's role it is to assess policies? Or a company that under-budgeted the first time around, simply trying to win back some business for itself?

The Government have a duty to explore all the avenues and the correct costings.

We need to process these people outside of Australia for any number of reasons, economic, ease of removal and also on security grounds.

However this political game playing is doing nothing but damaging these poor people who are seeking help and genuine asylum.
It is for them for whom I feel the most sorry.

...as opposed to a coalition that will underestimate its costings fantastically overblow savings and hugely over inflate government costings.

But in the end, I'll go with the costings produced by government departments over those produced by the proven numpties that the coalition uses.

Therein shows your complete ignorance of

a) Accounting methodology used by the public sector

b) The quality of the cost accountants working in the civil service

My uni lecturer - "Aim high when you seek the types of companies, try larger multi-nationals for ability to move in your career, smaller companies are a secondary option as you don't have as much chance.

If any of you can't get a job in either, you could always go and work in the public sector - they'll accept anyone."

What you say could be true. But it also shows my lack of ignorance of the extent to which some bean counters are willing to sell their souls for a few sheckles - as has already been ably demonstrated by the coalition's numpties.

I take it back. For KPMG it isn't a few sheckles, it's a shitload of sheckles.

I was once head hunted into a public job - The toughest criteria and process I have ever seen.

From experience I would say that the big corporations is the best place for the incompetent to hide.

What makes you think it's going to cost two or even three times what it cost to set it up originally? The basic infrastructure is already there, unlike when it was first set up. The governments' cost of $2billion to re-establish Nauru shows they are either straight-out liars trying to torpedo Nauru as a viable option no matter what or they are so incompetent they can't even get the cost of reopening the centre right.
