it was a society so primitive that it had not yet invented the wheel. Life expectancy was so low that 30 was an elder and child mortality was over 50%.

An almost ambition-less culture, they had remained the same for thousands of years.

white people brought them hope and certainly a life that lasted longer than 30 years.

Compared to a society who disenfranchises it's old, it's young. A society who's bases is greed and keeping others down while exploiting it's environment to the precipice of collapse.

If 30 was an elder, how come our museums show many aboriginals in early photos older than thirty.

A lie to try and cover up the abuse the invader has done.

Today is invasion day ... always will be.

Greens, for someone living here, you shhow a marked dislike for Australia and it's peoples and society.....of course there's an easy answer....you know where the door is....

Shooting the messenger ?

Aboriginality have had the short end of the stick. Just stating the obvious.

If some have a guilty conscious and don't want to face up ... not my issue.

Indigenous tent embassy turns 40

Indigenous Australians will today mark the 40th anniversary of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra.

It's a day early.  According to your first post the Aboriginal Tent Embassy was established on the 27th Feb 1972.  They should be celebrating tomorrow... Grin

ANTaR national director Jacqueline Phillips said the day is regarded by many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as Invasion or Survival Day.

Fine, if Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people wish to label 26 Jan in that way they are free to do so.

It won't change the fact that 26 Jan marks the day of the beginning of modern Australia and that is what the nation is called..."AUSTRALIA" and so it's simply just logical to call it "Australia Day" and just plain dopey to suggest anything else.

The fact that they continue to label themselves "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people" and not "Australians" is what is racist and divisive.

The calls to alter the constitution to recognise and single out a particular race of people is racist and divisive.

ANTAR is therefore a racist and divisive organisation and all its supporters such as Greens_win are therefore racists......

Maybe Greens_win should change his title to "Racists_Win"?..... Sad

I think Aboriginal culture 'hung itself' a very long time ago - like 30,000 years ago. Its been dead for so long. Never lived, only survived ...just.

Britain was 'awakened' when Rome entered its lands. For a long time, peace and harmony existed ...but when some Brits changed to become like Romans - then things got sour. Just like Aboriginals who stop being 'aboriginal' and take up Politics instead ...then the bitterness and hatred grows.

Be yourself!

Australia Day is a celebration of POLITICS in this nation.
Aboriginals who cry bitterly "Invasion" are not real aboriginals.
Real Aboriginals are sticking to what little concept they have of themselves and teaching people from around the world and those that have been born here - all about 'land' for starters.
Shame that those Aborignals that do enter Politics do so with a bitter heart.

By the way - I do agree that the Aboriginals were to blame for the extinction of many species before White Men, hell - many 'native' peoples wiped out many species.

It was NOT an 'invasion'.

Those P/C do-gooders who suggest that it WAS, have NFI.

Well yeah, it WAS an invasion.  I just don't care though.  It's not the first "civilization" to be invaded and conquered, and it won't be the last.

I dont know about invasion day but its really just the day the poms landed at Sydney Cove which seems to me to make it Sydney Day and nothing to do with the rest of Australia.
Lets get the pommy flag out of the corner of our flag and move Aussie day to the 1st of Jan..the day all the states came together to form the Commonwealth of Australia.

Well the whole country was called New South Wales originally...the division into states didn't come until later on......when they realised how big it was I think...

No, that's something that no government or ruling class will ever do....it's considered a disaster for the group that does it...

Even the Roman Empire avoided that...never remove any religious festivals or holidays....it annoys the peons..

Theres no need to have any other flag in the corner of ours..pommy, aborigonal or any other, just simply take the pommy flag out and leave it alone with the southern cross and federation star.
I dont know why everyone has to complicate such a simple thing.
