It has found that the same pair of Nike running shoes costs $240 at a major Australian sports retailer while consumers can buy the same shoes for $134 from an online store based in the US.   Sad

It's called volume Crook something that Choice knows nothing about.

300,000,000  V 21,000,000

Choice magazine is only good for emergency toilet paper.

Blackadder,
Are you having problems with the "quote buttons",
as a few others have had or is it that you just don't like using that method?

I cant work out how to use it percy.... I know you are not surprised...
I would also like to inquire why the getup thread is safe on the front page of PS>

Cods,
Please explain?

You just used the "quote button", so what is it that you don't know how to use?

this is embarrasing perc... I mean when they get all these little quotes from different posts to answer all at the same time..in little boxes... but then I am lucky to switch on and off on this thing..

take no notice of me perce when it comes to the computer I am thick..nayyy more than thick. goes with age I think

Don't worry about it Cods, we're all in the same boat!

Getting older, that is!

While we're on about the oldies and technology perce, why the heck do those lights keep flashing on and off all the time? Something to do with Christmas?  Wink

On the first page in front of all the headings. They did it when freediver first changed us over, then they stopped and now they're at it again.

No I have not been into the cooking sherry  Smiley

ops... what flashing lights are you talking about willis???.... are you sure you havent been having a wee         sniff of the cork maybe??

So what? Wayne Swan just re-enforced what we already knew: that Jerry Harvey is our favourite whiney retail bitch and all round media slut.

I'm sure ol' Jerry is extremely thankful for the free publicity.

Yeh the free publicity of alerting people to online bargains works against him though. What sort of astute businessmen would give a leg-up to his competition Cheesy LOL

When will Gerry get the hint that it's not GST that consumers are trying to dodge by purchasing off-shore? 10% is nothing. If the government did apply GST to purchases <$1000, even after paying $60 shipping + GST I would still be $300 better off on a entry level DSLR camera if I bought it from an off-shore retailer than if I bought it off Gerry (either online or offline). His point about GST being the issue is completely moot. The issue is his 400% markup and greed that he has been getting away with for years and years. Consumers are waking up now and smelling the fresh air. Hey, add 10% GST to my $550 overseas digital camera, I don't care. Harvey normal still want $999 for the same model!

Like you Crook, Peter of Subiaco has no bloody idea either.

400% mark up?????? What a wank.

So the camera  wholesales  at x dollars.  Harvey Norman marks it up at 400% where as the online shop marks it up at around 200%, or so. (btw I believe the 400% mark up commenter was being GENEROUS)

So, whats your point blackie?

I know of clothing stores that mark up over 1000%.

What IS a normal 'mark up 'black_adder?

...blackadder obviously enjoys a lot of fishing trips with a bunch of Harvey Norman 'regulars'!!

Lol, they're a disgusting bunch of footy playing bumpatters!

*Sure....they're anti competitive as any subsidised job is.  It wouldn't be there without the tax payer.  Very damned difficult for a brainwashed collectivist to understand that I know....  (swaggy) *

I will find out about that dna I know someone who works with IPEC.. but I would think it would run on the same lines as the postoffice its addressed to you personally.. why would it end up in a warehouse.

Do you think Customs take it from the ship and put it onto a dilivery truck going to your suburb?

They will bring it in on a bulk load it will be unpacked and sorted in some location where records will be kept and it will then be grouped according to the region it is being delivered to and sent on to a secondary dispatch centre in that region where it will be unpacked and sorted for local delivery. these days it is all itemised for the higher profile companies you can track the location and progress. Even at the sending end it will be dispatched the same way.

dna wouldnt it be address to you though and come by MAIL...why would it come in a container.. and as far as I know most people claim they get it within a day or two no ship would get it here that quick..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I havent heard any complaints about som eones order being held up by a waterfront strike..

airlines and carriers have got to be laughing all the way to the bank

Yes you are right most are by air not a container but still grouped - but customs is still involved and it goes into their wharehouse where the items delivered by a particular transport company or Aust post will pick up and move to their own dispatch centre, I doubt anyone picks up from customs and delivers direct to the postal address but it is possible, I would think on a small scale.

I know when I have missed a delivery and not wanted to re schedule I have been able to pick up from the local transpost hub for i.e. TNT etc or the local post office for Aust Post.

If you use the tracking service for something from the US you see the item delivered to the local dispatch centre from there it will go to the regional point and on to the international transport provider - then it will show as in transit till it is marked as arrived at customs then to a dispatch centre and on to the local distribution point waiting delivery.
