NO retailer of electrical, electronic or camera goods makes anywhere near 400% or 200% or 100% or 50% or 25%. Most if not all electrical appliances stores are running on margins of  around 15%. They rely on volume.

Yes clothing stores do have MASSIVE markups. With some mens shirts landing from China @ $2.25 and selling for $49.95. I don't have a problem with that as they have rent, advertising, wages, insurance, loss by theft, head office overheads etc.

It has found that the same pair of Nike running shoes costs $240 at a major Australian sports retailer while consumers can buy the same shoes for $134 from an online store based in the US.   Sad

Blackadder,
Are you having problems with the "quote buttons", as a few others have had or is it that you just don't like using that method?

Better question- What is an EXCEPTED profit margin?

a good point.. to do that though we would also have to take into account..

what is an excepted wage.

what is an accepted rent to charge.

what is an accepted  level of TAX local. state govt and Fed govt... they all have a bite of this cherry.[ and not just when it arrives here]

what is an accepted level of import duty

a person orders overseas... it get put in a mail bag it arrives at a destination here .where it is then delivered to the person.

for H.N. to sell a toaster.. it has to be transported by shipping container.to a destination.

it then gets TRANSPORTED to a WAREHOUSE where it is unpacked..

it is then REORDERED and TRANSPORTED to HN outlets..

the point I am making here.. is that each of the highlighted stops... all those costs more or less are involved and they all get passed down the line.. to  guess WHO!

we do have high wages in this country we do have high holidays and public holidays amongst also the best in the world I believe..

I am not knocking what anyone does with their own money

I do think its shameful our treasurer has a shot at GH.very publicaly..was that to get in his moot point about it being to expensive to protect our retail market.... maybe he should take a turn at being immigration ministers where he could keep an eye on the cost of protecting our borders

Swan is trying to get into a slanging match with a single retailer, yet lets the banks and petrol companies do what ever they want.

Swan is just a wanna be hero who will never be pm and doesnt have the respect of his peers.  Pathetic

Cods,
Please explain?

You just used the "quote button", so what is it that you don't know how to use?

If you or I buy something overseas it is transported to Australia and goes into a warehouse and is also unpacked and recorded then sorted and transported to its destination, all paid for by the customer.

Same peocess mostly half the price without the bulk rate discounts etc.

i.e. Harvey pays less than half the transport cost that you or I cough up.

just had a thought talking to my friend fred..

I wonder how many of you retail bashers will be running round the town Xmas day cursing the shops are all closed... because you have run out of something probably beer..

we really do demand a 24/7 service in this country yet loath to pay for it.

what about boxing day when you want to change something or just take it b ack.. can you do that with things you have bought overseas?????..

I dont think so..so little Johnnies toy is broken he will have to wait a while to get a new one...no it wont happen to you of course it wont.
