The Greens, the wowsers of our times,  will go the way of the Dem at the next election.

You don't see many posts on the Environment forum by Green. That's because they are far more interested in social control than the envitronment.

The days of the Greens just being a 1 issue party are long over.

Yer, to use a loose traffic light analogy: doGmatic Libs worship the Dickensian and Howardian eras and use the rhetoric of 'stop' everything - but the progressive Greens are 'go'!

LABORS AGENDA RUN BY THE GREENS . ?

BOB BROWN THE UNOFFICIAL PM OF AUSTRALIA. ?

Thats the talk right now in parts of the media and on thursday's DAILY TELEGRAPH headlines mentioned some minor revolt in the labor party where senior Labor members confronted JuLIAR GilLIAR about there thoughts of the alliance and how uncomfortable they were about an impression OUT THERE, that the greens are running Labors agenda. especially the carbon tax, gay marriage and euthansia.

A leader with class eh?

Just wondering if you remember which leader behaved disgracefully when the President of the USA addresses parliament and had to be shouted down by other AUS politicians for fear of embarrassing the country on the world stage?

Was that Abbott?

Oh no, it was our prime shirt-lifter extraordinaire - Comrade Bob Brown of Mardi Gras.

Senator Brown is courageous regardless of how the rednecks view his sexuality. No-one else had the guts to speak out against Bush's actions - Howard was too busy licking his boots.

Perhaps Brown didn't follow protocol - but then he never has. He got his message through loud and clear and that was the point of it.

I don't think anyone gave a stuff what Bush thought, although some might have pretended they did.

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH reported that three senior MPs - NSW senator Steve Hutchins, South Australian senator Don Farrell and Queensland senator and president of the Senate John Hogg - voiced their deep and valid concerns about the party's direction to Gillard, Swan and Trade Minister Craig Emerson on Wednesday.

It sounds as though that these members of the labor party are scared that the GREENS alliance could ruin the Labor party's chances with the electorate

Labor would be stupid to listen to scaremongering from the opposition - because that's all it is.

Although - it would be nice for the opposition if they did - killing two birds with the one stone.

Let's not forget the Liberal/National Alliance where they depended on seats from the Nationals to form government.

Post  ~Morning all…Gary, I think the mainstream electorate is very worried about the Greens being in pseudo-power. It was a mistake for Julia to sign her pact with BB. ~

Reply- ~ Huh?
1. The “mainstream” electorate pays little attention to politics, except at Budget & Election time. That’s one great silent tribute to the effectiveness of Oz politics & gov!

2. Most Labor voters and traditional Liberals true to the party as it was before 1996, 2nd preference Greens.

3. You’d have to be young not to remember the original great environmental issues – The Rocks, Lake Peddar, Cooloola Sands, Fraser Island , Great Barrier Reef –> Gordon-Below-Franklin and the High Court decision on that. In all of those (as in Scrap the WAP, Vote “YES” in the Aboriginal Referendum) the Change Masters & Makers were informal coalitions of Liberal, Labor, Australia P/ Democrat, TUs, “greenies” – note: in a couple of environmental projects, the WAP & AR, those who delivered the legislation were

4. In the last 50 years since 1960s activism changes Australia’s When bread was white & cheese was Kraft attitudinal landscape, so much of the original agendas was mainstreamed under Holt, Gorton, Whitlam, Fraser and Hawke-Keating :

* environmentlism – (fauna & flora) phasing out whaling industry, conservation of other marine life, conservation of native fauna & flora species, putting aside an increasing amount of significant land in National & State parks, Heritage Listing, ecotourism & with matching facilities, returning some/ more water to rivers and lakes turned dry by dams etc –> a much greater awareness, from childhood, of the importance of these issues;

* acceptance of a much wider variety of raw & processed food (much of it of nonAnglo-celtic origin), and a variety health issues involved in food production and consumption;

* acceptance of “greenhouse”-neutral gardening (inc organic), housing & power;

* before Howard needed to win back Pauline Hanson’s voters, a strengthening tolerance of other races and religions, and a very positive embrace of multiculturalism

* non-discrimination in Parliaments & Councils, government/official appointments (inc research), public services and throughout the private workforce
to name a few.

NB: note that, originally, Libs were the strongest supporters of a non-racist, non-sexist, tolerant Australia. Whitlam’s election to the leader of the ALP made it bi-partisan. The Country/National party, representing rural townsfolk (inc itinerant, mainly AWU-organised rural workers) farmers with mainly small to medium size holdings, and Big Mining interests, did not support these initiatives.
Though its Fed arm started recruiting the religious right (esp RC) earlier & it picked up votes from USA-style fundamentalists who, in SEQ, voted for Joh BP, Pauline Hanson, RW Shockjocks (esp Alan Jones) & Tampa 2001 mark an amazing Liberal about-face on its own ‘l’iberal values and stances – as Fraser, Cheney, Turnbull and others point out. Under Tony Abbott’s leadership almost all semblance of the Party of Menzies, Holt, Gorton, Fraser, Peacock – even Turnbull – has disappeared.

The mainstream electorate is very worried? I don’t think so; nor does anyone who read Possum’s artricle on the “Liberal demographic train-wreck.”

Demographically, the mainstream electorate is not aging Liberals, racists, religious fundamentalists & their political arms, the Nats, shockjocks and their scared, weird, poorly-educated, bigoted Whities. The mainstream electorate is well-educated (at least on paper) social-networking GenY (increasingly), GenX and Baby Boomers – all majority ALP/Green voters – with about 42% ALP/Green voters in the remaining, aging demographics.

As widely reported, dropping CPRS cost Rudd his support; dumping Rudd and the CPRS during the election almost cost Gillard the election – especially loss of Q seats (losses were minimal elsewhere; there were gains in Vic.) IOW dumping CPRS cost ALP heavily and almost handed Abbott victory. That’s reality.
That mainstream electorate is predominantly ALP/Green voting!

It means that the Liberals & their supporters are so terrified of the Greens that they will stoop to any low to destroy them - violence and lies are becoming commonplace amongst the Coalition. Abbott is allowing this.

The Coalition needs a leader who is democratic and sane and those qualities don't exist in Abbott.

'terrified of the Greens'... funny that! scared of a party that can ONLY get elected with the support of the Liberals - who wil now probably nationally deny them preferences. Without the Liberals there would be no hope of a lower house seat and less than half the senators.

Bye By Greens next federal election!

Dogmatic right whingers seem to need an enemy to justify inaction and lack of positive policy direction...

Little do they know that they are doing themselves a disservice by obsessively sqawking over the Greens - not least because they are giving the Greens legitimacy by drawing negative attention to themselves...

Even the most corroded greens supported should realise that post 2013 Federal election The Greens will be banished to the annals of Australian Political history.  With any luck the ALP will join them, but they might just hang on to a few seats; Gillards won't be one of them.

It was only today I realised that the Greens in Ireland - who were part of the minority Government that got the country in such an economic mess - were completely wiped out at the last election.

This carbon tax could see the same in Australia.

The Greens do not appeal to those of us in the middle.

Frankly, I don't think that anybody can accurately predict how the next 2 years will pan out politically in Oz...

The only thing that I would be prepared to wager at the moment is that: the Libs will need to both ditch doGmatic Abbott and resoundingly-denounce all of his rabid religious-righteous cronies and their extremist policies, in order to try to win over the moderate centrist swinging voters...

In the absence of a change of Lib leadership, I do not expect any major shift away from the current polling - but ditching and denouncing Abbott & Co could well prove to be an election-winning move...

Apparently, Windsor intends to leave Parliament and I wouldn't be surprised if ol' Katter called it a day as well...

For various reasons, Oakeshott's future is less certain - I would like to see him stay on and prove his critics wrong by being democratically re-elected...

As for the Labs and the Greens, they will either need to cement their political marriage of convenience or formally divorce - both approaches carry significant risks for both parties in the public eye and therefore at the ballot box...

I do not believe that the Greens will suffer a savage electoral hit at the Federal level (they could increase their vote if the LibLabs don't give enough priority to environmental and socio-economic equity and human rights issues) - oh, and I expect that Brown will enact a leadership succession plan for the Greens...
