Labor Support Drops After Carbon Tax Deal
Feb 28th, 2011 at 8:03pm

Prime Minister Julia Gillard's plan to introduce a carbon tax appears to have hurt Labor's political standing.

The latest Essential Media poll shows Labor's primary vote falling by two percentage points to 37 per cent.

By comparison, the coalition's primary support has risen by two percentage points to 45 per cent, with the Australian Greens down one percentage point to 10 per cent.

On a two-party basis, the opposition leads Labor 52 to 48.

The poll of 1964 voters was taken during the past fortnight, with the majority of polling done after Thursday, when Ms Gillard announced a carbon tax would begin in July 2012.

Still, Essential Media director Peter Lewis said he couldn't say conclusively what caused the shift in voting intentions, with more polling needed.

The poll also found 57 per cent of respondents in favour of multiculturalism, when asked about its contribution to Australian society.

This is the first poll after the announcement, The Pollution Party's Big Scare Campaign in full swing. Only 2 Points, Bit Disappointing for the Hard Right don't you think.

"Nobody in NSW politics, on either side, can figure out why Gillard chose the dying weeks of the state Labor government to announce a great big new tax designed to change the weather."

That's it - the Green/Labor view of the world summed up perfectly: a new tax to change the weather.

its the greens idea anyway... so it will be the greens that lose votes..

people are obviously turning against this idea... its okay to tax the biggies but when they finally wake up that its all going to be passed on to them.. then they change their tunes.. its a laugh really

how can we save the world... of leave it to the govts they will save it..

they never ask the tough questions... HOW WILL THEY SAVE IT?

those who vote green will have an awful lot to answer for...in the future.. the near future..

you see woody most of us live day to day... they dont live in the year 2050 like you pious greenies pretend to do.

let booby come up with a policy to say.. charge all those who are green members and voters a LEVY of lets say $40 a week..to advance the cause of green power...... lets see how many of you rush in and claim that one.

the dedicated should be living in a cave really saving the planet for all they are worth.. if they think a tiny country like this will make a difference they cant deny the chosen few will also make a difference..

what a great idea.. you like that one woody?
