Pakistani cricket cheats

They are the most corrupt team in the planet - the ICC should toss them out.

Quote:
........The arrest by Scotland Yard of Mazhar Majeed, a property developer and player agent, has cast a cloud over the extraordinary results in Australia last summer - and over all recent Pakistan cricket matches.

The British Sunday tabloid News of the World obtained proof of spot-fixing in the current Lord's Test against England, and recorded the agent boasting that he had earned $1.3 million from the controversial Sydney Test, which ended in a remarkable come-from-behind victory for Australia.

Majeed claimed that Pakistan captain Salman Butt, bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal and others would all play to instructions.

Amir and Asif bowled no-balls in the Lord's Test at specific times that the agent had promised, allowing spot bets to be placed.

Pakistan last night suffered its heaviest-ever defeat against England in a sombre last morning at Lords. Officials cancelled all public presentations after the match.

Akmal dropped four catches in the Sydney Test as the Australians made a comeback from a 200-run first-innings deficit. Butt and Asif both played in that game, but Amir was injured.

An investigation by The Australian has revealed that Majeed was with the players during the tour and was in their hotel rooms. He and his brother, Azhar Majeed, are closely involved with the Pakistan cricketers and claim to represent Younis Khan, Abdul Razzaq, Butt, Asif, Mohammad Yousuf, Shahid Afridi, Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq and others.

There are claims seven players are involved in the betting fixes. Scotland Yard detectives have interviewed a number of Pakistan players, although they have only arrested the agent........

Gee whiz, crooked cricketers from the sub-continent, who would ever have believed it?

As soon as sport changed from playing for pride in your country, to dollars in your bank account, I guess this was inevitable, and if we think that Aussie cricketers are immune from temptation, or actual corruption, I think we are kidding ourselves.

It is a shame, I used to like cricket when it used to mean something, and truly embodied the spirit of fair play.

What we see now, "is just not cricket".

Too right!  I sympathise with the poor people of Pakistan, who look up to their cricketers, and follow the sport as one of their few entertainments, apart from wife bashing and dog kicking, that is.

It's a corrupt country.

When they had a big earthquake years ago, most of the money donated to theose effected was taken by officials.
That's why the recent floods don't have as generate as much sympathy/money.

Corrupt sports people, corrupt officuals, troubles wih terrorists........ I'm unsurprised

Agree. Agree.
To think that millions of people are starving in India and yet Steve Waugh doesn't bat an eyelid when his fellow 'Aussies' go and play in the local Comp for million$. Even Mr "Don't call me Monkey" Symonds turned around for a cool $2 million.
Everyone should 'Ban' the Indian Comp. It might pull Pakistan into line too.
I used to be right into Cricket, but soon as the players  started putting a priority upon being Celebrities, I got turned off pretty quickly.

Sports do not build character. They reveal it.
Heywood Broun (1888 - 1939)

Some people have very good lives and still want more....greed is destroying sport....loyalty and a sense of fair play are a thing of the past.....the almighty $ is all that matters now!!!

Sad

Well yes, there are shiploads of corrupt brown people, AND yellow ones, AND black ones.  However, it is PC to lie about those facts.  It`s called "the jellyback grovel".

Quote:
........THE ex-girlfriend of Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif has claimed the fast bowler confessed to her that last summer's Australia-Pakistan Test was fixed and told her during the series to "stop praying - we will not win a single match during the tour to Australia".

Veena Malik, a comedian and former model, made the allegations on Pakistan's Express News network during a discussion of the match-fixing scandal, which has outraged the cricket-mad nation as it is experience the worst floods in a century.

Malik said Asif confessed during a phone call he made to her while in Australia that the team planned to throw the three-Test series, but she said she was unaware what Asif's involvement was in the fix.

"When Pakistan started losing in Australia, I jokingly said: 'For God's sake, win a match.' To this, he replied, 'We won't win anything until 2010'," she told the late night Frontline program.

Malik also claimed that before the Pakistan team flew out to Australia last December, Asif made a sudden visit to Bangkok to meet bookmakers there.

"One day, he got business-class tickets and went to Bangkok," she said.

"He told me that he was offered $40,000.

'I advised him not to be part of such activities but he did not listen. Instead, he went ahead and demanded $200,000."

She added: "Since he came back, he has been totally involved in this. Once he told me that the entire Pakistan team is involved. From head to toe, the Pakistan players and officials are involved."

Malik said she had provided details of Asif's travels to the Pakistan Cricket Board as well as information relating to a R15 million ($356,000) loan she made to him, which she claimed was in part used to pay Asif's lawyers, who were working to reduce a two-year doping ban.
Asif's failure to repay the loan caused a public row between them, although they announced a rapprochement at a press conference in May............

It's a sad blow for the Pakistani people who are doing it so hard atm.
Now they don't even have their cricketers to look up to.

Unfortunately, it's the lack of money in Pakistani cricket that makes these temptations far too great. It might be about time that a more generlised wage for all cricketers is called for.

From our perspective, these cheating cricketers may seem just plain greedy, however, none of us were raised in a poverty stricken nation.

To make the Australian cricket team nowadays means automatic fame and fortune, to them it means an escape from poverty for themselves and their families.
Not much cash is flowing in the direction of Pakistani cricketers these days, but that of course doesn't justify the actions of those who gave in to temptation.
It's times like these that may make them (and other mercenary sportspeople) see that there's much more to it than money, they've thrown away an opportunity to do something good for their nation when their nation most needs it.

Stop knocking the only thing that might make cricket interesting.

And there could be a new reality TV show ready to be exploited..."Hey Jockstrap, TAKE THAT BRIBE" (canned laughter)

But seriously I am so offended that I think cricket should suffer a complete media blackout in Australia permanately.

It seems that the Pakistani people have consulted Alan for some good advice on how to handle this situation.

Yay, the word of Alan has dictated that they must place labels depicting disgraced cricketers upon donkeys and pelt the said donkey with tomatoes.
Yay..the donkey shall absorb all shame.

Good donkey   Grin

Is it any wonder that we don't want to donate to flood victims there?
Who wouldn't want that tripe washed away?
They'll never get a rosy red cent outta me 'til they pull their heads outta their asses..or donkeys.i
