Increased power and water charges on way ....

thanks labor ....

........THE chief executive of one of the country's biggest energy retailers has warned that power prices are set to increase dramatically.

Origin Energy boss Grant King said that complying with the mandatory renewable energy target (RET) and network spending would put upward pressure on energy prices.

"That's not of our making, or anybody other than policymakers," Mr King told The Australian.

"That's just the inevitable and logical consequences of the policies" that governments are implementing.

His comments follow both federal Resources and Energy Minister Martin Ferguson and his opposition counterpart Ian Macfarlane warning in separate interviews with this newspaper that power prices were likely to double in the next five to seven years.

Mr King said that estimate was "possibly conservative" and added that many consumers of utilities faced "a real come to Jesus moment" as suppliers were forced to re-price energy, water and other essential services.

The RET seeks to ensure that 20 per cent of Australia's energy consumption by 2020 is derived from renewable sources.

Wind farms would cost between $100 and $125 per megawatt hour, compared with $30 to $40 per MWh for coal.

Moreover, the intermittent nature of wind means that it would need to be backed up with big-ticket investment in gas turbine power plants.

Mr King said he suspected that policymakers "didn't truly know the cost" of policies that had been introduced..........

I know someone from Integral, they say that they can't cope with the demand that Sydney asks for and that they spray water from hoses onto the generators or turbines directly to cool them down.

I think this is just a 'hike' like a lot of things though - Welcome to the Great Inflation. Expect Interest Rates to rise steadily and not stopping this time, once the Political situation clears for the long term.

Shame they can't put Turbines in underwater situations where there is a constant strong current.

Just wait until the retards get their way and impose a carbon tax on top of all the other costs and price rises.

Anyone earning less than 100k per  annum will be sitting in the dark eating cold baked beans.

But it is extremely important we do something about our carbon emmisions because we do contribute less than 1% to the total global output.  Grin

Although a little more expensive, Heinz Baked beans are great and the ring pull makes opening in the dark a lot easier and less hazardous.

Politicians and Nappies need to be changed often and for the same reason.

One trouble with political jokes is that they often get elected.

Both of these are a good thing.

It is retarded to ration water and make people carry it in buckets while giving it away for about 1c per tonne. Not even the communists were that silly.

Sprint,
I assume you don't live in Western Australia, otherwise you wouldn't be directing this purely to Labor!

Although, maybe you still would?

For your info, WA has a Liberal government and we have had over 25% increase in power costs this year, we may be looking at something similar next year & water is following suit.

One has to wonder how pensioners and the unemployed will manage to pay for power.

Given that they are battling to afford the CURRENT (no pun intended) charges.

And given that BOTH sides of govt REFUSE to give the unemployed a fair, just, and LONG OVERDUE increase, they haven't had an increase in real terms since the days of the Hawke govt.

Sprint, you really need to start thinking a bit more objectively.

Labor has implemented some very good schemes which are affordable to all and which will bring about a profit for the nation in regards to CO2 emissions.

Nobody gives you something for nothing, and it's this attitude which has caused me to bypass a lot of the very good deals available under the labor government.
The profit is for the future Sprint. Don't you understand the basics of investment?
As with infrastructure, it's a necessary duty now for the future.

In the case of saving on emmisions, the ALP actually did offer something for nothing. I'm very disappointed that I missed out on upgrading my insulation for nix just because I automatically turn away any Indian who comes to my door (and that's not such a bad thing). Indians are cheats and liars, along with the rest of that backward peasant area of the world.

But there have been, and still are, some very good schemes available. And the reason being is the reason that you have already stated. Energy costs will keep going up.

After much deliberation, I decided that I should jump on the solar energy rebate offer, and I have.
I realise that there are much more efficient solar cells just around the corner, but the deal that I have with Origin seems a sound one which also encompasses incentives for me to use less energy. The incentive is that I can not only get cheaper power, I can profit from it if I wanted to be a real tightass with electicity.

So jump aboard Sprint..just in case Abbott gets in and ruins any existing or future schemes.
