Can you tell  me how or what you think Abbott should or will do if we hit another bout in the GFC.?

number one    he could pay people to fix all the sick batts

. Number two   pay people to fix the school halls and tuck shops

. Number three   , he can finish the super clinics sorry. They are not started yet OK  he canstart them

. Number four  employee people to fix the rest of Labour's mess

The laugh is that several of labors anti-gfc policies came from the opposition and in particular, Turnball.  Labor was all at sea over the matter and after abusing libs for their suggestions, then implemented them. the bank guarantee was one example that was a turnball idea but Rudd added the 'unlimited' part to it and caused all the problems.

No, I think if there is a GFC II, australia is in much safer hands under the liberals.

It is the Liberals constant lack of investment in infrastructure that annoys me the most

- Mozza

2 points

1) Over the past 40 yrs .. Australia's political/historical record clearly demonstrates that it is the Labor Party that is unable to invest in infrastructure. Why?? Because it cannot manage domestic budget and debt. If anything .. Labor sucks at it. It's impossible to invest in anything when you don't have any money. History can be a biatch .. but it also has a habit of mapping evidence for those of us who are not afraid to face the truth.

2) When I was at Sydney Uni studying (amongst other things) politics .. my Economics Professor (Frank Stilwell) introduced us all to Australia's own "Father of Economic Rationalism"... his name was Paul Keating.

It would be timely for some to avail themselves of the opportunity to read up on economic rationalism and its association with the Labor govt whilst in Federal office.

Have a nice day Mozza Smiley

What Labor is doing is like a family investing in their home, by doing renovations, which will improve their enjoyment of their home, and improve it's value. [/quote]

You mean like investing in the home by installing roof insulation for example?
If Labor was really interested in investing in the nations future, it already had the opportunity to invest in highways, ports, railway, and other incidentals like hospitals, healthcare or aged care.
We got none of that.
Instead, we got overpriced school halls, and undersized overpriced unusable school canteens.
We even got school halls built in schools in Queensland about to close.
Labors investment in the builders early retirement fund will do nothing for this countries future I'm afraid.
They couldn't waste the taxpayers money fast enough.
If Labor gets a second term, it only means the Australian people need more pain.
Or they enjoy the Labor political gymnastics and spin.

How about fixing the goat track called a "National Highway" here in the north.
How about expanding our ports.
How about fixing our railways.
How about investing in hospitals, Healthcare or Aged care.
How about putting in canteens that the schools can use, or if they don't need it, how about a new science lab that the school has been waiting years for.
How about investing in Education and training.

Ooooh Mozza .. the backlash!!!

It was inevitable of course Smiley

The fact is .. Labor does not deserve another chance. They've been given so many chances since 1972 - 2010 .. and EACH AND EVERY TIME they've shown consistency and flair in STUFFING OUR ECONOMY!

How many times do we Aussies need to be insulted by these clowns??

I have to keep repeating myself it seems, because the fanboy types just do not get it.

While I have never been a fan of the Liberals, I do not think they are evil, or will destroy the country, but the stuff their supporters come out with is pretty damned extreme.

Firstly the GFC, Abbott opposed the stimulus plan, he seemed to think that there was no problem so just hoping it would go away if you ignored it would be the best plan.
So was he too afraid to make a tough decision, or was he insensitive to the hundreds of thousands that would have suffered through losing their jobs, small businesses and homes?

It was a time of unprecedented economic crisis, and as a potential leader, Abbott was found sorely lacking.

If Turnbull or Costello had been at the helm, we could have been sure they, at least, would have had a plan.

Another reason I really want Labor to win this election, is that I want the Liberal party to become the party it should be, and if the right wingers are rewarded with government, then the centrist moderates within their party will be relegated to insignificance.

A loss this time however may well see a level of introspection necessary to rid itself of those dragging the party away from the centre ground that Labor has won from them, and with new moderate leadership, and good centrist policies, it could become the party which most aussies want it to be.

A revived centrist Libs might even see Costello return to politics to take up the leadership, and finally claim the PMship that Howard cheated him out of.

So while I think it will be good for the country for Labor to win, this one, I also think it would be good for the Libs as well.

If that were to come about then people like myself would be able to have a real option of voting Liberal, knowing that in doing so we would not be enabling extremist climate change denialists, or xenophobic, ultra nationalistic ideals, or even for people like Abbott who had the gall to quote the bible in his justification for why he would not try and reduce homelessness.

Labor is about to start it's campaign which will remind people of just some of the things that Abbott has said whilst in office, in the attempt to remind people that this more controlled , stage managed, Abbott that we are seeing in this campaign, is not the real Abbott, and people should think twice if they really want Abbott the extremist as their leader.

I for one wish the Liberal party had asked themselves that question before they dumped Turnbull.
I just wish the Liberal party had asked

The PMship is NO-ONE's birthright. you have to fight for it. When costello quit after losing the election he actually proved that he didnt have the fight that it takes to be PM. He wanted the PMship GIFTED to him and Howard wasnt going to do that - nor should he have. And as it turns out, if he had taken the leadership this election woudl already be his for the taking. Costello has shown that he lacks a quality that good PMs have - guts.

I think you put far too much stock in this elections ability to change the liberal party. this is not the elction that liberals are expected to win. nobody defeats a first-term govt. A close defeat wil be considered a victory for Abbott as when he took over there was a 16% gap. no, you are most naive to think a loss in this election will do anything other than strengthen his position. and a victory of course will cement it!

no, you dont. they were the people that kept labor out of office for a generation.

And your point? I vote GREEN not Labor, if the Libs had a liberal leader like the ones i've mentioned I would preference them, but seeing as though they have the most extreme right wing neo con to ever stand for office as their leader, they can get stuffed I will preferece Labor.
I dont hate the Liberal party, I hate the extreme neo con leading it.
When are you rightards going to get it through your thick heads that in order to appeal to voters you need a moderate leader who the swinging voters, and GREENS who need to preference someone, will vote for.
The attitude of the rightards here and Abbott just make it so much easier to preference Labor.
