Condolences to m'man up the thread.
Now I discovered something today. There's this band that we've been kept in blissful ignorance of. The Yanks have kept them a secret for the last decade. They're called My Morning Jacket and have been described as 'Pink Floyd come from Dixie". Actually that's my phrase but the connection between Pink Floyd and the South is not. They're really great and you may have seen them because they did play the basement. It's on You Tube and is not really typical, it's great too actually, (MMJ come to small venue). But this is more typical
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuobpnRXz2o&feature=relatedBut it's not the end of my story this morning

Erykah Badu, whom I posted upthread, (Annie, don't wear no panties) Is black from Texas. She's the black music other black musicians go to see. For a variety of reasons, she's experimental, controversial, political, and has perfect timing both in music and 'theatre'.
These two would not in a normal world cross paths.
But, those well kno0wn philanthropists American Express have thrown a number of piles of money at musicians in a vain effort to buy popularity. The series of concerts this has produced is called UNSTAGED and the objective is to get two musical polarities to collaborate. The result is amazing, wonderful, it totally runs against my world view of course, but it's really hot. The song 'Tyrone'(there's others from the same concert) is a Badu one that MMJ Had done a cover version of previously. Better get full screem and crank up.

One other point I'll make, the jackets the lads are wearing is not their usual garb. It's part of the ironic piss taking of each other that's going on throughout,(the flamboyant uniforms adopted by earlier black boy bands) see Badu's reaction when HE starts singing HER song. This really has everything in my opinion, it's intelligent, funny and great GREAT music.
