I bought a pair of Sonabs from the '70s off eBay. I'm looking around for new fronts for them.

As you know audio gear is one of those areas that is incredibility effected by diminishing returns.

I don't have the best audio gear I can afford, but pretty darn good and the price of the speakers, second hand from USA so the price was like pennies compared to here.

Have a read of some Thiel reviews, hardly a bad word spoken about them.

I owned Theil CS 3.7’s (?) - - hope I recall the model number correctly - they had strange metalic woofers  - - looked like old fashioned garbage tin lids - enjoyed them until a deliquent Audio Research D70 A power amp went volcanic and destroyed them.
I remember this was the first rig I’d owned that got three dimensional depth just right. The bass however in my medium sized room was very uneven - could have been the room though.
For decades I couldn’t afford the gear I wanted but a friend who reviewed the stuff often leant me bits and pieces. I learnt very quickly that spending silly amounts of money didn’t always take you to musical heaven. Sometimes however it can.
In retirement I’ve been able to put together a system, and just as importantly a LARGE ROOM that ticks all my boxes.
VPI Direct drive TT, VPI 3d printed arm, various MC & MM cartridges, Allnic H -1201 phono pre (on loan), Nakamichi Dragon (yes, I still play cassettes) Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 800 amp, DCS Bartok DAC,  Yamaha CD-S2100 player for SACD, Magico M6 speakers, VELODYNE DD15 sub-woofers.  Most of my listening is off LP-s -- I have something like 5,500 classical LP’s and don’t know how many others. I inherited a collection of private pressing blues LP’s that will soon be sent to the US for transfer to digital.

Wandering so far off topic I suspect we should cease this rave.

Blues eh, see what your soundstage does for this.

The whole album is worth a listen.

Parts for older Sonab models are very difficult to source. I’d start my search by phoning https://www.pacifichifi.com.au/brands/sonab and ask if they have any contacts.

Here's a neat little clip mixing Music with Art (in the form of universe material). Some might recognise the music from a famous Australian movie as composed by a famous French musician.

Very hard to tell given Youtubes compression mangles so much. However, I can tell there’s something wrong with his vocals being front centre yett his guitar placed way too far behind him. Still, worth a listen.

Brilliant playing but there’s something so wrong with the sonics it’s like having your eardrums sandpapered.

If you are expecting studio quality sound from these two, you are sorely overestimating their intent to keep the sound unpolished. This was to demonstrate their skill in guitar without the interference of studio post production.

I wasn't expecting studio quality sound from those two.Too often today studios produce crap sound anyway.
Overestimating their intent to keep the sound unpolished? There’s a huge difference between unpolished and distorted. Other guitarists have recorded on simple domestic gear without producing the horrible noises those two achieved. i wouldn’t care so much if they were useless as musicians.  I simply found myself unable to listen to them to the end. I’d rather run my fingernails over sandpaper.
These two manage to produce clear, undistorted sound on their ‘domestic’ recording gear.

Then there’s distortion inflicted before intentionally.

However, what needs to be remembered is Youtube’s videos are themselves often subject to all kinds of compression, not just MP 3. Therefore we can’t ever be 100% sure what we hear over the web in this format is how the musicians intended it to be heard.
