A little background to this ‘heavenly’ piece.
Originally the Miserere Mei Deus belonged to a body of music generally going by the title “Musica Pohibita” . This collection was only ever to be performed in the presence of the Pope and his clerical minions and done so in a completely darkened chapel.
At the time there were rumours the candles were extinguished to allow the assembled prelates to be ’serviced’ by male youth. We have no proof this actually took place.
Mozart was smuggled into the Sistine chapel during a performance coming away with a complete ‘copy’ in his head which Anglican choirs have been gleefully performing since. Not bad for what is ten part harmony.

I have to confess at times the text chills me with it’s misogamy at the line ‘My mother conceived me in sin'.
