That's a fine line, and a subjective one.
Not through lack of trying, I don't think this generation of parents have the right to say "In my day".

'potato sacks as curtains'... that's more like the depression era generation... the one before the baby boomers.
I gotta say, it's hard to beat the baby boom ers or the Gen X era for getting as close to 'having it all' as it's possible to be.

The resentment I see is from those "Gen X" who can't seem to wait to inherit depression era nana's beach front property which she and gramps bought in 1958 for 300 pounds and is now worth 1.2 million. Somehow they can't stand the thought that nana might be good to go for another 30 years.

Ah yesss..now your talking the Gordon Gekko, greed is good era. We've only degenerated from there.
Capitalism has seized control of all basic emotion and placed a price on it.
Give me the potatao sacks and my nana any day (whom I'm lucky enough still to have).
Believe me, most young people would still feel that way and fight for it with a passion despite the massive attack of capitalistic indoctrination.

This isn't exclusive to Generation X. No matter what generation you are, there's always someone in the family who has their eye on an inheritance.

True, but with the tangental rise in property values, inheritance mania became a common family disease.

Not much chance of that. My nan and her late husband were constant travellers, always selling up anything they had to travel some more. So not much moss gathered I wouldn't think, unless she's really good at saving pension cheques Grin
