Abu

I interrupted another thread to find out the meaning of Abu.  It doesn't say much on google - apart from this.

Abu is an Arabic term meaning "father." It is used as a "kunya," an honorific that incorporates the bearer's firstborn child's name into the bearer's own. For instance, if the bearer's firstborn son is called Hakim, the bearer might take the name "Abu Hakim."

Abu - if you have only converted to Islam in the last few years - why are you allowed to use the name Abu - unless your father was a Muslim?

Unless there is another meaning I can't find.

Anyone can use the name "Abu such and such". And it means that person is the father of such and such, not the son of. which it seems you're referring to by mentioning my father.

If it was referring to my father, then I'd say Bin such and such, as "Bin" means "Son of".

Same as "Bin". The vowels just get juxtaposed depending on what precedes it.

Is there a corresponding 'son of' suffix or prefix? Like Sorenson or Ivanovich/Ivanovna?

A little trivia, "Bin" is the same as the name commonly used in English "Ben". Ben is a shortened form of Benjamin, meaning "Son of the right/south" in the Semitic languages from Ben Yameen, Yameen meaning right and/or south (hence the reason the southern most tip of Arabia is called Yemen).

It takes no effort. The creed is a gift that keeps giving in this regard.

I don't mean any disrespect, but how old are you? Do you act like this in person?

You absolutely mean disrespect, you just thinly veil it as manners, but it's very transparent. My age is none of your business, but please assume I am any age you like if it helps with your ad hominem. You have no reason to be concerned if I act like this in person as we will never meet in person.
