Actually it does the opposite. People don't hold onto their culture because of multiculturalism policy. The only difference the actual policy makes is that they feel more included in their new society despite the cultural difference. Multiculturalism aids assimilation.

On the topic of undermining society, all the great empires, and even the great cities, were built on some kind of multiculturalism. It just went under different names, like merit based promotion, religious tolerance, live and let live. It was conservatism and a rejection of multiculturalism that contributed to their decline.
