Mark 10  KJV

Quote:
[21] Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

Strange how Jesus was talking about taking up the cross or
carrying the cross before he was actually crucified?

How did he know he was going to be crucified?

Um, is this perhaps only the King James Bible translation ???

  Shocked

Yes, curious....  Shocked

KJV is the closest to the original in ancient Greek.

Dear Death,
I am surprised because my late Aunty did a thesis on the Bible -
fully translating it from ancient Greek.
She told me that the KJV translation was highly accurate.

Both you & Muso seem to have discovered an error.

There are examples of mistranslations in the New testament... A glaring one is Matthew 21 1:7, where he has Jesus entering Jerusalem simultaneously riding on 2 donkeys at the same time. The writer(s) of Matthew is clearly not a Hebrew speaker nor understands Hebrew grammar in his / their attempt to link Jesus stories with Old Testament prophesies.

Yes - you have a point:

Matt.21  KJV

Quote:
[1] And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,
[2] Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.
[3] And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.
[4] All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
[5] Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
[6] And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,
[7] And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.

No Dame Pansi - it seems to be a mistranslation.

Jesus crucifixation had been prophesied about for centuries before.
And, well, He is Jesus, so just knows some stuff.

And Jesus having looked upon him, did love him, and said to him, 'One thing you do lack; go away, whatever you have  -- sell, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven, and come, be following me, having taken up the cross

It's clearly a comment by the scribe (who may have been Matthew), who was writing 300 years after the event.

Brilliant work Muso,
You have found an error in the Bible's translation.

A mistranslation ? Yes, that's about what I'ld think.
Would it be like watching a movie in different languages?
There will be variations between versions. But both will tell the same story.

Translate a poem into 3 languages, yes, there will be variations.

Luke 8

[16]

No man, when he hath lighted a candle,
covereth it with a vessel,
or putteth it under a bed;
but setteth it on a candlestick,
that they which enter in may see the light.

John 8

[12]
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying,
I am the light of the world:
he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness,
but shall have the light of life.

Matthew 5

[14] Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

[15] Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

[16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

It may have been mentioned before (I'm not going to read through 23 pages to find out), but I would suggest the Sermon on the Mount.

Matthew 5

New King James Version (NKJV)
The Beatitudes

Quote:
5 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
    For they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    For they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
    For they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
    For they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Dear Frances ,
I already posted it.

The Sermon on the Mount above.

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,  so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
