I guess they are looking for "something", get associated with a movement and find it hard ot get out ? Do the leaders start off genuinely wanting to help others, then get caught on the power ?

Hillsong exposed

There is a new book out about Hillsong. Here is an article about the difficulties in getting it published, given Hillsong's deep pockets and the risk of litigation:

The author describes ex members who were "the walking wounded, isolated from each other and themselves, ashamed, angry, and hurt, their families in tatters and their self respect annihilated." She also describes the worship music that takes up half to athird of each service in a completely controlled environment, followed by a constantly repeated message. She also accuses them of teaching 'prosperity gospel'.

It comes as the church braces for more negative publicity: former insider Tanya Levin's book People in Glass Houses is due to be published next month, questioning Hillsong's "prosperity theology".

Skinner addressed the crowd with a blunt message: "You can't separate God in his awesome power in heaven from the snotty, bloated kid with the fly in his eye in the ditch. God is not impressed by the size of our church. God is not impressed by how many times we go to church but by how much we become like Jesus. The world is on an accumulation binge - give me more and more and more - but God is a giver."

prosperity theology is a load of bullocks.

however thats is not the focus of hillsong, they do teach it but its not extremlly important. People opposed to the church linger on this point to discredit them, journalists specifically.

i do not agree with that tecahing but i am pro hillsong for eveyrthing else they try and achieve. and they have a wonderful worship service.

Yes, i've struck the "prosperity theology" in a pentecostal church.
It is ok as just one topic of the bible, this church went overboard on it for my liking.

One of the benefits to reading the whole bible myself is I can give topics a rating as to their importance, or how often it is discussed about in the Bible.

Thought there was some relevance to a prosperity theology, will start a thread on it.

many exmenbers of any church will be unhappy about that church. I guess the bigger the church, the more the exmembers ??

Me too, Jesus was a vagabon, he owned nothing, he didn't go to church on Sundays and was not a christian a buddhist a jehovas witness or a bloody muslim.
He preached love, respect, forgiveness, he led by example and he lived what he preached. Maybe more people should worry about their own spiritual health and mind their own business about what other people choose to believe.
Religion is a business.
