Reply #1 - Jun 4^th, 2007 at 12:13pm how do u define a cult? i usually define a cult as being a specific group which has limited numbers, using that definition then Islam, Judaism and Mormons wouldn't be a cult. not sure about Hillsong or Jehohav's Witnesses though.

A religion which uses hypnosis or trances or unusual actions/chants.

Some islamics spin to ''be closer to god'' by making themselves dizzy, mainstream islam wails- its like a chant.

Jews almost headbut a wall and chant.

Mormons practice bigamy.

Hillsong and its counterparts are musical, but the point is its how the audience reacts to the music.
ever seen the movie Borat? when he goes in to the ''church''?

Jehova's humiliate and subjugate its followers.

by unusual actions/chants, i'm assuming ur referring to prayer. if that's the case, then all religions are cults based on ur definition. i personally don't think prayer on it's own is enough to call a religion a cult.

think cults tend to isolate people from noncult people. Also control their money, emotions.

eg, catholics feel catholicism is the right (only correct) church. leaving catholicism used to be a big deal - ex communicated, was that the phrase ?
no freedom in a cult.

religion is dreadful.

I saw borat, that was great. can't remember the church part, what happened ?

Aussie - I was in a church where that happened !! Left soon after.

America just has lots of people and good media coverage. More people with more time on their hands.

What was the borat head thing ??
I like the nude fight borat and his mate did in that hall with hundreds of people watching.
And the khazatastan national anthem at the rodeo, when the horse in the background gets spooked and throws the rider !
