Dating & Relatives
Apr 30th, 2007 at 2:56pm

i'm a firm believer of the existence of adam & eve, and that all of mankind developed from them (making everyone their offspring). so technically, we are all relatives of one another.

so my question is this, how far removed does someone have to be for u to consider dating them? at what point does dating someone become a legitimate relationship as opposed to incest? the reason i'm asking this is i discovered a work collegue of mine who is married to his first cousin (which they think is okay).

interested in hearing other people thoughts.

Well guest-

Out  here in the bush there are quite a few 1st cousins married to each other-I think 1st cousins is a bit close, but thats just me.

I remember I had a crush on a first cousin once but even as a young girl thought it not quite right.

I think its up to the individual- as long as the genetic outcome for any childen arising from a union such as this , is not compromised then I guess its OK.

Any other thoughts?

Kissing cousins is fairly accepted in America and other places

I think that historically, the 'taboo' was limited to siblings and half siblings, or their children (nieces/nephews), or the siblings or half siblings of parents (Aunties/Uncles). As far as genetic problems are concerned, the more distantly related the better. This even extends to different ethic groups. I think that the children of 'mixed' marriages tend to have better imune systems. The monarchs of Europe used to interbreed and marry their cousins quite regularly. This helped keep the peace as the ruling class across the different nations were related. But they ended up with a blood disorder as a result - anaemia I think.

Your siblings will have roughly 1/2 of their DNA being exactly the same as you (I think). Given the prevalence of recessive diseases, this is risky for any offspring, as for any gene they would have a 50% chance of getting the exact same copy (ie from the same gene in the parents of the married siblings) from each parent. Your first cousins share 1/8th of your DNA, so the risk is quartered, but still significant. For the next generation down (same great grandparents) it is 1/32.

I think that according to the old testament Adam and Eve's offspring married other people. I'm not sure how that worked - a miracle I guess. I think that all religions and world views consider us all to be distantly related.

I think the way Adam & Eve worked was that each year, Eve would have a set of twins (one male & one female). basically, the male of one set of twins would marry the female of another set of twins (and vice versa).

There is somewhere in the Bible (early books, maybe deuteronony) where it gives a list of who you should not marry as they are too close.
I agree with freediver, in that the problem comes down to the flaws in our genes.
The closer the relation, the more likely the flaws will be similar and arise.
If our dna/genes were perfect, there would be no problems in marrying anyone, no cancer etc etc etc.

Assuming Adam and Eve were genetically perfect,  their offspring can have kids with no defects.
Also explains the vast periods people used to live early in the Bible.
Somewhere around 600 - 900 years.  Their genes were perfect, or pretty darned good anyway.
Course, sin sneaked in and our flaws grew and are passed on .

Interesting this topic come up here under relationships.
I have felt The Bible is a book about relationships.

The more the mix and variety of gene-bloods, the more robust, intelligent and higher immune (no need for jabs to keep you going) - which showed with isolated gene pools over thousands of years that were wiped out by viruses and diseases like in the new worlds.
So in essence, Human society is backwards a bit in that the Mongrel is more superior than 'Royal' or any 'bloodline' of purity.
The only thing about Puritantism is a distinctive 'racial' look where if Ranga's breed mostly with other Ranga's - they would become more 'Redder'.
I guess that's why distinctive Yellows of Asia and Blacks of Africa don't want Whites (Blondes) breeding with Whites, Red Rangas breeding with Red Rangas, Blue Brunettes breeding with Blue Brunettes and Grey Ravens breeding with Grey Ravens upon New Worlds and Old as they would be more racially distinctive in their purity like a sword being folded again and again and again by a blacksmith.

So both have their advantage. Mongels are superior on the inside, but Puritancy looks stronger on the outside as a shared experience.

Black Africa
White Australia
Grey Oceania
Green S.America
Red N.America
Yellow Asia
Brown Mid-East
Blue Europe

...Purple Mongrels inbetween and everywhere else.

Greta Sacchi an Australian actress married and bred with her 1st Cousin.

They say also - that the 'Rich' (people with privilege) are sexually, genetically flawed and the 'Poor' are only financially flawed.
