Slow roasted lamb shanks
May 23rd, 2024 at 3:00pm

This will be tomorrows dinner. Recipe at:

https://www.recipetineats.com/slow-cooked-lamb-shanks-in-red-wine-sauce/

While the tradies are working in study, lounge, front passage and the two bedrooms I have my kitchen back (sort of, often to get in the kitchen I go out the front door, around the house and back in via the side door that leads to the kitchen.) So will try and do a few things in the kitchen while that happens.

Tomorrow the lamb shanks, Saturday will smoke the pork belly to finish turning it into delicious, sugar–free bacon. While that is happening will smoke a few racks of ribs for dinner. Got some relishes (one smoking hot chili paste) so try one or two with the ribs.

Sounds good, but it's still too bloody hot in Perth for lamb shanks.

27 degrees today.  Crazy   Cheesy

(Love lamb shanks with mashed potato)

Lovely to eat, but they stink rank during cooking.

Man, the shanks smell nice! REALLY nice! Meat, onion, the wine and herbs ooohhh yummmm!

I will have to turn the oven off at 2.00pm, off to do some shopping for the weekend and to give the dog a run in the dog park.

I'll give the buggers another go tomorrow.  Cool enough.  TIB likes it, so might get closer to the big bed.

This one is totally different!  Doing it in the oven, not a slow cooker, as before.  3/4 of a bottle of red wine in it and the red wine aroma is getting me thirsty!!!!

Going onto a bed of mash when done.

That's what the recipe said. 2.5 cups.

Done and eaten.  Great, but this oven recipe was way too labour intensive.

I cook vacuum packed shanks in esky filled with water at about 60c for a couple of days, then finish them on hot grill to brown up. They fall off the bone yet very juicy inside.
You can add flavours you like in the vacpack before sealing it.
