Captain Nemo wrote on Nov 19th, 2023 at 10:26pm:

Anthony Albanese faces a new political fight over his management of the China relationship and demands to explain whether he expressed disapproval directly to Xi Jinping at APEC after a Chinese warship injured Australian navy divers in international waters.

The Prime Minister has returned from San Francisco to calls for him to reveal whether he personally raised the incident with his Chinese counterpart following a horror week in which the government was forced to capitulate to Peter Dutton’s demands for far-reaching controls over criminals released from immigration detention.

Defence experts said the close encounter was a reminder of the fragility of the government’s project to stabilise relations with China, with the opposition saying Beijing’s actions were falling short of its promise of improved relations.

The government waited until after the conclusion of APEC to reveal that divers with the Royal Australian Navy suffered minor injuries after being subjected to sonar pulses from a Chinese warship. The incident occurred in Japan’s exclusive economic zone on November 14 – a full day before the Prime Minister left to attend APEC.

Defence Minister Richard Marles said the Australian government had “expressed its serious concerns to the Chinese government” and blasted the conduct as being “unsafe and unprofessional.”

That Lee is probably the most ironic picture of the future of Australia's Legal/Political culture.
Unlike in America where a President is the stand alone 'Power'.
Here it will be the Cops (the Political 'People'), not the Prime Ministers - as the last say Power.

That sub they keep showing is a SEAL assault sub designed to carry an assault vehicle in that hump.  Oz is not getting those - but attack submarines simple.

All jokes aside - it's appalling to think how very long some of these people have been reclining in their comfortable political seats without a single thing changing for the better in this country despite their endless rhetoric.

2011 - in the stalking of Julia Gillard book - name after name.... two of them in that last cartoon..... and what has changed for the better?  Are people generally better off?  Do they all have meaningful jobs leading to meaningful futures and retirements?  Will any of those part-time casuals fit the bill for that dopey sheila from the superannuations council last night in their retirement?  will they even have Paul Keating's then astronomical sum of $300k salted away in super after costs and fees from their few hours work a week?

Where are the 'great Labor Party people' with their Australian Labor views and hearts?

Feeding off the fattest in the land forever .... as usual and as always, just like their LNP counterparts.

Talk about a country needing to divest itself of its 'political leadership' and fast.... better a few newcomers making a few errors than this disaster cemented in place....

If AlboCorp keep flooding Australia with people, there'll be no trees left along the coastal fringes and a group fart will push over the dried out stumps.

Heeeeey - on the news tonight about burn-offrs... that cunning Aboriginal lore that the Wharte man has appropriated, you know... without them Abestinians we'd know nothing ... (groks on image of Abestinian fire brigades standing by a traditional burn 1787) ...

So all your complaints about Albo's lack of detail don't apply to Dutton mining policy?

I recall the AUKUS announcement had very little detail too.

Nevertheless, AUKUS is going ahead.  Wink

It does.

I have no problem with demanding more details from Labor about their renewables plan.

We need to know.

But there is a great difference between the intention of the two policies.

One wants to reduce emissions and create a landscape where our energy comes from renewable sources.

The other wants to pretend to care about climate change and push Gas under the direction of their mining benefactors without any intention of actually delivering on Nuclear.

I also don't support AUKUS.

That whole sub deal from start to finish has been a mess and it's costing us billions for nothing.

But I suspect you don't want an honest chat about that given all the Liberal fingerprints all over it.

Funny how nobody cared to bring that up in the last 10 years of the Coalition Government, only to pretend to care now that Labor are in charge.

I see what you're doing...

I remember a time when we could demand more of our political leaders, no matter who was in power.

Now it seems to be that we can only demand better of Labor and when the Coalition fall short, we just point to the other side and say "but Labor".

You people criticise those who want safe spaces or talk about being precious snowflakes then you pull this sh
it
?

You're forever trying to cast an alternative reality where none of the rules you demand others follow apply to you.

Dutton needs to provide more detail AND before the election.  We said the same thing about Albo and the referendum.

Oh but now detail doesn't matter because it's the Libs who need to provide it?

Please.

Talk about satire...

Cheesy
Deluded memory loss on a ludicrous scale, sad scroto.

More is demanded from Albo because he is IN power. Did you not demand more and better from Howard, Abbott, ScoMo when they were in power?

If Albo proposed replacing old coal fired plants with nuclear I would support him. I would support Adam Bandt if he proposed it. It makes sense not because WHO proposes it, sad scrots, but because the idea has merit.

I don't support AUKUS.

A stupendous amount of money to be spent on a few submarines which - let's face it - are extremely unlikely to ever see action against real enemies.

Instead, they will be used to play "war games" with the US.

My only agreement with nuclear powered subs idea is that they are superior to conventionally powered subs. IF you are going to have subs, then nuclear powered is the go, but that is a big IF. I don't see the need for them myself.

There is nothing wrong with mining, we just need our government to govern for us, not the miners.
