Nissan huts - Housing for the homeless.....

Why not ?

Not bricks and mortar......

But a Nissan hut would be a roof over your head if you are homeless and if you don't have the money, to pay the exorbitant rents which are being asked for today.

WWW search.......

nissan huts

......select images

In the UK during WWII Nissan huts were constructed 'everywhere', and housed military personnel [aka, 'troops'].

Nissan huts are very, very cheap to build.

The governments in Australia today, could build, easily and quickly.......10's of thousands of them !!!

And if housing in Australia, today, is unavailable [due to a lack of a building skills workforce],
why not construct Nissan huts as TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION [aka 'emergency housing'] ?

This cheap and easy [i.e. very, very quick] to construct accommodation.......was 'good enough' to house troops, in the UK......during WWII.

It won't be allowed as it's an admission that Albo's mass uncontrolled immigration policies
of millions of people coming here with nowhere to live was a wrong idea.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissen_hut

A Nissen hut is a prefabricated steel structure originally for military use, especially as barracks, made from a 210° portion of a cylindrical skin of corrugated iron placed over a steel and wood frame. It was designed during the First World War by Major Peter Norman Nissen in Britain. It was also used extensively during the Second World War and was adapted as the similar Quonset hut in the United States.

Yes freediver! Wink

Council rules, building code rules, zoning.......emergency housing be damned.

Australia in 2026 doesn't need emergency housing.
/sarc off

Australia needs more bureaucracy, and a brand new 'can NOT do' spirit.
/sarc off

Let bureaucracy build shelters for our homeless.

In another 20 years, we may even have another 20,000 ['built to code'] homes completed.

Yay!!
/sarc off

As you say freediver........'We can't just put a roof over someone's head.' Tongue

What a travesty that would be !

There are far too many 'middle men' [and middle-women!] who could miss out,
on not being 'in the loop', and making a dollar.

Hell no !

When there is 'a dollar' to be made, we can't just go straight to the simplest solution !!!

That's because there is no emergency. There is a problem invented by certain politicians to give themselves something to fix.

Nissen indeed, lived in them for quite some time, first at Kapooka [1st Recruit Training Battalion] 4RAR and then at Bandiana.

freediver,

I don't know if the 'circumstance' you describe is actually correct.

But if it is true......it would be a shameful thing, imo.

And i would say that there would be many ppl who would disagree with you,
re you saying 'there is no emergency'.

And some State Governments in Australia in recent years have funded....building 'magnificent' new sporting arenas.....with TAXPAYERS money.

When today.......many ppl [many of them also taxpayers] are unable to afford to rent a roof over their heads,
and our [national and state] governments seem unable/unwilling to find a 'remedy' to this problem.

It is a disgrace, imo.

.

Gnads,

Nissan or Nissen, .....whoever.

My bad.

He was a smart chappy.
