We need to properly tax resources we export
Oct 21st, 2026 at 1:05pm

We have an abundance of natural resources and export a significant amount of them, usually on the cheap side. This article is worth reading. It's not like implementing tax changes to export of resources will stop companies investing. They need our resources...

They only need our resources whilst it is cheaper, and that includes the cost of shipping. Others already, see Indonesia, Brazil already export in competition. Cool

Well, then - we'll just have to process them for ourselves...

The Govt. would rather go after old pensioners
than tax companies properly that are raping our resources.

Pensioners don't have an army of tax lawyers and accountants to fight them.   Roll Eyes

I thought Australia did have a export tax but they call it royaltys?

Regardless after all the subsidies the government hands out to big business we the taxpayers would be struggling to break even.

Why doesn't the government let businesses run themselves rather than constantly handing out taxpayers money to private companies that they never pay back?

I suggest that there isn't one professional sport in Australia that could last a week without government taxpayers funding?

This culture of corporate welfare has to stop!

I think you'd have to look at that case by case.

In many cases a  money invested in big companies means that jobs stay here
and the Govt can get it all back with their massive taxes.

example -
car industries went broke without Govt help -
they closed down and we lost a huge tax base and 1,000s of jobs.

⁷I'm not so sure..

The government risks our money to prop up failing businesses that then go onto make profits.
Eventually the same business model that originally caused the threat of closure reappear and once again the corporate hand is put out for my more taxpayers funds.
Why is our taxpayer money wasted this way?

You silly Billy -
you have to enrich Uranium and then make it into fuel rods.
We have zero of that technology in Australia.

Our workers need a wage that is better than most - and the opportunity to earn it.. the only way to achieve that is to 'value add' by securing our own resources and using those for secondary and tertiary production ... Australia must become the producing and exporting country rather than the banana republic buying back at value added.  DUH!

For that we will need either high tech and highly trained staff - or a massive increase in (gasps)  guest workers...

Side Note:-  All these nerdy types have a real future ahead of them as drone operators - the wave of the future in defence... just keep the chips and Coke coming and they will do fine..  Nerd Squadron Scramble!
