"ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess says while the terror threat level remains at 'probable,' the temperature and trajectory of the security environment is "concerning".

Burgess says words matter and that he has repeatedly put on the record his concern about the use of violent rhetoric in the public discourse.

He says elevated levels of grievance, intolerance and polarisation have continued to create a "permissive environment of violence".

He says his organisation has seen direct correlations between inflamed language, inflamed tensions and acts of violence.

"While political differences, debates and peaceful protests are essential parts of a healthy democracy, ASIO has seen direct correlations between inflamed language, inflamed tensions and acts of violence," Burgess says."

He has a point here - some whale in Meccabourne says she'd like to see the whole place burned down and we have a summer of bushfires (DMML) - some dicks get online and in the streets and blame Israel for self-defending and Bondi occurs as an inevitable outcome.

Just examples.

As I said - the entire set of party ideas and thinking need to be reviewed by those parties and government - and some solid thinking is needed into what is going so wrong with this country.

I'm sure many of us out here could tell them - if we could just get past their pretty little girlie gatekeepers in the office who ignore representation from the people... those sweet little things who can support and work toward the mass murder of wildlife, for example, without a second thought, while they lust after a 'political career' and the sweet ride for life for themselves.

Snide side note:-  Why do you think the likes of Reinhard Heydrich Jack Gough, planner of the New Holocaust and the final solution, are doing the rounds and smiling sweetly for the cameras on Channel Nine while advocating mass murder?  Jah, jah - those fire ants in one nest a year ago could be a problem - that justifies the mass murder of thousands of horses and the mass poisoning of all other wildlife at the same time - or between shooting sprees that is.

Yep.

Regional Victorian Liberal MP Mary Aldred says she fears Australia is losing the ability to respectfully disagree on big issues in the wake of the attack on Helen Haines.

Aldred entered parliament at the 2022 election representing the regional Victorian seat of Monash, which shares a border with Haines's seat of Indi.

Aldred says the "temperature" has been rising in Australian political discourse for some time.

"Whether you disagree with someone, political violence is unacceptable. It is appalling, it is abhorrent, and we must reject this," Aldred says.

"Online particularly the temperature and the tone has been raised at times to most unacceptable levels."

Side track again .. and yet these same political voices actively pursue huge databases and the over-use = abuse of algorithms in policy thrusts they approve of.. including that major policy thrust by government of all stamps these days towards absolute control over the populace by absolute control of information on EVERY part of their lives being filtered through algorithms.

Are they blind or complicit?

I've long warned in many ways against databases, AI and mass information sieved through algorithms to suit narratives that are the bread and butter of modern day technology and its use in politics.

Is anyone apart from me aware of the grave dangers?

This attack was horrendous.

Apparently, the bastard rammed into her, pinning her to the back of her vehicle, reversed and rammed into her a second time.  Angry

There should be a law against attacks like this with a minimum 10 year sentence.

They should hang em and hang em high.

Nope.

Decades of criminological research show that capital punishment does not deter crime.

Listen - left-wing nut job -

that's cause they stopped hanging em high:

U.S. states with the death penalty generally have higher murder and violent crime rates on average than states without capital punishment.

FBI Crime Data: According to data compiled by the Death Penalty Information Center using FBI Uniform Crime Reports, annual per-capita murder rates have consistently been higher in states with the death penalty than in states without it.

Regional Concentration: Many of the states with the highest homicide rates are located in the American South, which also happens to retain and carry out the majority of U.S. executions (such as Texas, Florida, and Alabama).

Lack of Deterrent Effect: Major academic reviews—including reports from the National Research Council—have found no statistically sound evidence that the death penalty deters murder more effectively than long prison sentences like life without parole.

Moratorium Studies: Research examining states that paused or abolished the death penalty found that the changes did not lead to an increase in murder rates.
