Ukraine isn't having any luck bombing Vlad into submission either, but boy, he's giving it a jolly good go. The only thing that will stop this one is a NATO-backed guarantee, which your DL refuses to entertain.

Trump has learned that the hard way with Iran, or has he? I still think he's in denial about how effective his choices regarding Iran have been. He still seems to think (or at least says publicly) that Iran doesn't control the Strait of Hormuz and that it is open for ships. The truth is, it isn't.

I do not believe that this war came out of the blue.

I do not think either that one side is entirely innocent and the other is entirely responsible.

I think the Russians, as Bismarck observed, will respond to anything with unexpected stupidity. They are Serbs in that regard. I don't think Ukrainians are distinguishable from Russians.

Expanding NATO into what was the Warsaw pact was provocative but those nations were really not Russian/Soviet so there was an understandable desire to be protected from the ex-Soviet Union. Flirting with Ukraine joining NATO was a leap too far.

Ukraine treats it's various minorities badly. The Russian Ukrainian animosity is mystery to me as I don't think of them as different people. They evidently do. They are indistinguishable in their corruption and self- mythologising. Why they can't talk to each other is, to me, a sign of unfathomable stupidity on both sides.

First of all, NATO is a defensive alliance. It doesn't go around invading other countries, and never has. The same cannot be said of Russia, especially under Putin. So the excuse that NATO expansion is reason for Russia to invade Ukraine is absolute nonsense and just plain stupid. Second, you didn't answer my question. What would you have done on the day Putin ordered his forces to invade Ukraine? Would you have ordered Ukrainian forces to fight, or surrender?

Not sure. Zalensky agreed to his no-bombing deal until DL turned Starlink off and Vlad got to work bombing power stations, a supermarket and kindergarten.
