Pete Hegseth paid $50,000 as part of a confidential settlement to a woman who accused him of sexual assault in 2017.

In October 2017, following a speaking engagement at a Republican women's event in Monterey, California, a woman filed a police report accusing Hegseth of sexual assault in a hotel room.

The Monterey Police Department investigated the incident, which included a rape kit exam and documentation of contusions on the woman's right thigh.

The payment and agreement were initially made to head off the threat of a lawsuit.

Why did he pay her off if he's innocent?

It's cheaper than a multi million dollar court case.

If he was innocent he would win the case and be awarded costs.

So, why did he pay off a woman accusing him of rape if he's innocent?

Many people who are innocent pay people off in court -
it's often a less risky solution than a
he said/ she said court case.
