Angry Anderson, Australian rock legend and Rose Tattoo frontman, dies aged 79

Rose Tattoo frontman Angry Anderson has died just weeks after being admitted to a hospital in Germany during the Australian rock band's European tour.

I met Angry, very briefly, about 25 years ago.

A very good friend of mine played guitar in Rose Tattoo - John Meyer (now deceased).

I went over to John's place one afternoon to record something in his studio and when he opened the door this little guy walked out and said "Hey mate".

John said to me "Gary is just leaving, go right in - I'll be with you in a minute".

I said "Hi" to Gary, and then went into the studio.

After Gary left and John returned to the studio I asked him "Was that Angry Anderson"?

He said "Yeah, but I always call him Gary".

It was a 30 second meeting. No more.

He was very short, which shocked me.

Anyway, Rose Tattoo were a great band - my fondest memory of them was back in the 80s when they were playing in a Kalgoorlie pub - it was so loud I thought my ears were going to bleed.

The police were called, and the band was told to turn it down.

The band told the police to "F off!".
