One Nation has unveiled its plan to slash immigration by 750,000 places over three years, with major cuts targeting international students and the families of skilled migrants.

Student visas would be capped at about a third of the current intake, dipping to just over 100,000 places a year, with a new visa category created, similar to US President Donald Trump's so-called "genius visas", for "high-value" students.

Visas for families of both international students and skilled migrants would be cut to zero, and people who overstayed their visa would be banned from Australia for life.

The policy goes further than the party initially indicated, with migration levels going backwards for the first three years in what the party is calling "net-negative migration" to give Australians "breathing space".

After that, the party would pursue a "ceiling" of 130,000 in the net overseas migration program, to be reviewed year on year.

One Nation has stuck by its promise to pause migration from countries the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade rates as "do not travel" because of "terrorism or other extreme security risks".

The party has previously promised to refuse entry to migrants from nations "known to foster extremist ideologies" that are "incompatible with Australian values and way of life".

Senator Hanson said she also wanted to stop taxpayer-funded legal aid for visa appeals.

One Nation also has a policy to introduce an eight-year waiting period for citizenship and welfare, and promised to withdraw Australia from the UN Refugee Convention.
