US prez threatens war - on BANKERS
Aug 28th, 2026 at 10:59am

BREAKING NEWS:

This week, US bond markets went into freefall. The US cumulative national debt just reached $40 tril. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant has been snapping up bonds to prevent the US going into default.

It's a bit of a problem. The President's options?

Oh, you know, a bit of this, a bit of that. Then there's the ultimate intervention: the US military.

Yes, DL just announced he can bomb his way out of a global financial crisis.

Peter Hartcher sums it up for the leftards:

“We have many types of intervention. That’s one. The ultimate intervention is our military, and if we have to use that, we will.”

It’s not exactly groundbreaking to note that the incumbent American president routinely makes bizarre declarations, but even by Trump standards, this was utterly baffling. The Q&A quickly moved on, but the idea that he could somehow deploy the U.S. military to intervene in the bond market is obviously insane. It’s not even theoretically possible, unless the Republican intends to have armed service members literally attacking bond traders.

He is the President of Peace. ✌️
The majority of his efforts are for peaceful solution.
But for those who cross the line. Of course. He'll kick their arse.
He's hard but fair. Grin

Indeed.

If any smug little school girls think they can just sit at their desks and expect to be educated, well, they've got another thing coming.

I didnt hear 'military intervention in the bond market.  Only that there are many types of intervention.  Not 'many types of intervention in the bond market.'

Only that there are many types of intervention and  that the ultimate intervention is the military.

Frank's trying to be cute again.

Reporter audio clip
Did you direct secretary Bessent to intervene in the bond market? Was it your idea that . . .

Donald Trump audio clip
No. He’s a very capable man. He wanted to do it.

Reporter audio clip
Have you talked to him about another type of intervention? Is that something he will be doing?

Donald Trump audio clip
We have many types of intervention — that’s one. The ultimate intervention is our military and if we have to use that, we will, yeah.

Peter Hartcher?

A political commentator who is not an economist trying to explain bond markets to the podcast's host ...oh dear....let's listen:

Hartcher: "Donald Trump has raised doubts about the credibility of US debt".... ie, among mainstream  commentators who assert there is no alternative to debt-based money for a currency-issuing govt, and no place for planning in the macro-economy (as opposed to 'invisble hand' markets).

Hartcher: "Trump is not trying to fix the underlying problem which requires cutting spending and raising taxes"...so that bond holders can remain confident the US can repay its debt, ignoring the fact the US can always repay its debt so long as the US remains productive and the govt. controls inflation.

And ignoring the political reality that half the population depend on essential public services to survive, hence the current revolt against mainstream centrist parties pushing  their lower  taxes and lower spending dogmas to 'balance the budget' (which is nonsense: a c-i govt's budget, by definition, is not like a household's budget.

Hartcher: "so what could the US do? The most immediate thing is to cut govt. spending".... easy for a highly-paid commentator to say, in the midst of a cost of living crisis badly affecting at least half the population....

Hartcher:"... are you telling me the bond market can f*ck my entire program? And the answer is yes"....which proves Trump should close the bond market, because the US govt can create money out of thin air just like private banks do, while directly controlling inflation other than via the 'independent' central bank.

Trump has added an astonishing amount to the national debt. It's crazy. Before being elected, he spoke about how he will reduce the debt faster than any President has ever done, faster than anyone would believe, according to him. Only a fool believed him.

He has destroyed the US like no other leader in modern history has destroyed a country.

It's staggering the amount of damage he's done to a once great nation.

He's done the exact opposite of everything he campaigned on.

I can't remember a bigger failure in politics ... ever.

Sure, but Juan Hernandez is now back home in Honduras, safely shoving drugs up the noses of the gringos, thanks to DL's pardon and release.

The US is in a structural deficit for two reasons: DL's big, beautiful tax cuts, and his war with the mullahs.

This is exactly what led to the US funding crisis during the GFC: GW's tax cuts, followed by his endless wars.

Always absolutely never ever, no?

Agreed, dear.  It was totally unnecessary to give tax cuts to billionaires. As Peter says, the US has a debt-GDP-ratio of 6%.

In Australia, it's 1%.

We'd ask you what the percentage is over in Chi-na, but you probably can't tell.
