Biggest Red Flag For Extremism
Aug 28th, 2026 at 7:44am

Misogynistic views are biggest red flag for violent extremism, report finds

Hostile and violent attitudes toward women are the clearest warning sign of violent extremism, a study has found.

As national cabinet prepares to discuss how to combat family violence, the research identifies misogyny as not just a social issue, but a matter of national security.

The University of Melbourne survey of Australians as young as 13 found that misogyny could predict support for extremist violence "way beyond" where someone sat on the political spectrum, what religion they belonged to, or how much time they spent online.

Report author Sara Meger said the study was the first of its kind to show that misogyny was not an isolated prejudice, but a robust, cross-cutting predictor of violent extremism.

"The number one thing predicting whether or not somebody is going to hold extremist attitudes is whether they think violence against women is acceptable," Dr Meger said.

The research was funded by the Office of National Intelligence and put forward five recommendations, the first being that misogyny and anti-feminism should be recognised as a form of violent extremism in the national counter-extremism framework.

Teen boys most likely to hold hostile attitudes

Dr Meger's team surveyed 3,429 Australians about their attitudes toward women, gender roles, consent violence against women, and a range of extremist ideologies.

A significant minority of Australian men and boys shared beliefs that gender equality had gone too far, that feminism was a hate movement, that it was OK to pressure girlfriends into having sex, and that feminism should be resisted with violence if necessary.

Teenagers and young men were much more likely to express hostile views when compared with both young women, and with older men.

'Extraordinary' link between misogyny and extremism

The researchers also analysed associations between various types of extremist views.

The results revealed a consistent and robust pattern of positive associations between misogynistic attitudes and multiple indicators of extremist behaviour.

"If you take misogyny, violence against women attitudes and this idea that feminism's gone too far, if you combine them, they account for approximately 70 to 80 per cent of all the explained variants in how someone's answering the extremism questions," Dr Meger said.

Dr Meger's team looked at six extremist movements: incels; far-right; white supremacy; far-left; anti-feminism; and religious extremism.

Misogyny was the key ideology that cut across all of them.

"What they share is an ideology that men ought to dominate women, that transgression of the natural gender order deserves punishment and that violence in service of restoring the natural gender order is legitimate," she said.

A national security issue

Dr Meger said the findings meant intelligence agencies and police forces should take anti-feminist views into account in their work to combat violent extremism.

However, she cautioned against "securitising" misogynistic views.

"I don't think the policy solution is to try and criminalise people's beliefs and attitudes," she said. "It's more about recognising the creation of these rifts in the first place that's driving the political violence.

"And that means the solution has to be much more oriented around education and cohesion building."

The Australian Federal Police confirmed that "some individuals charged with possessing or creating violent extremist material have also had misogynistic material".

"The AFP is currently exploring how it can improve the capture of information specifically relating to gender, sexual orientation and/or identity to better inform the identification of matters arising in our work, and to support future investigations, analysis and reporting requirements," the AFP said in a statement.

We should stop immigration from the worst countries:

Worst Countries for Women
Afghanistan: Women face strict bans on secondary education, most jobs, and going out in public without restrictions.
Yemen: Girls and women have very little access to school, jobs, or fair legal treatment.
Chad: Child marriage is common, and women get less than two years of formal schooling on average.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ongoing conflict leads to high rates of harm and poor health support for women.
Pakistan: Cultural rules and laws limit women from holding jobs or entering politics on equal terms.
Somalia: Most women face extreme health risks, poverty, and a lack of legal protection.

All Muslim majority except Congo. And Congo is African.

4. The parties were held at a New York City residence that was being used by Defendant Jeffrey
Epstein. Each of the parties had other minor females and a number of guests of Mr. Epstein, including Defendant Donald Trump at four of the parties I attended. I understood that both Mr. Trump and Mr. Epstein knew that I was 13 years old.

5. Defendant Trump had sexual contact with me at four different parties in the summer of 1994.

On the fourth and final sexual encounter with Defendant Trump, Defendant Trump tied me to a bed, exposed himself to me, and then proceeded to forcibly rape me. During the course of this savage sexual attack, I loudly pleaded with Defendant Trump to stop but he did not. Defendant Trump responded to my pleas by violently striking me in the face with his open hand and screaming that he would do whatever he wanted.

6. Immediately following this rape, Defendant Trump threatened me that, were I ever to reveal any of the details of Defendant Trump's sexual and physical abuse of me, my family and I would be physically harmed if not killed.

A South Sudanese man who viciously bashed a triple amputee with the victim’s crutch has become the latest person to use “visa stress” to quash the denial of their protection visa.

The man, who can be identified only as GNHW, successfully argued in the Federal Court that being placed on a more restrictive bridging visa would likely make him more of a risk to the Australian community than if he was handed a protection visa similar to the humanitarian visa he lost after his brutal assault on a vulnerable disabled man.

His case echoes that successfully put forward earlier this month by a Sierra Leone man who had his visa cancelled following a sexual assault of a teenage boy, and points to another loophole facing Immigration Minister Tony Burke.

GNHW was released from immigration detention in November 2024 following the High Court’s NZYQ decision and has since been interviewed by police over an alleged sexual assault and an alleged theft.

The man arrived in Australia from Egypt on Christmas Day in 2017 under a Global Special Humanitarian visa. In August 2019, he was arrested after he assaulted a triple amputee who had tried to intervene in a fight between GNHW and another man with whom he had been drinking in the southeastern Melbourne suburb of Dandenong.

According to court records, GNHW wrestled the disabled man to the ground, punched him in the face numerous times, and stomped on his head twice. He then picked up the victim’s crutch, with CCTV footage showing him hitting the man in the head with the crutch 77 times.

At times, GNHW pinned down the man’s arm – his only remaining limb – so he could hit him “without any defensive action”. The assault lasted four minutes and 51 seconds, and the judge who sentenced him to 24 months’ imprisonment described the attack as ‘a shocking assault … on a defenceless, vulnerable victim”.

That conviction prompted cancellation of his humanitarian visa, and he was transferred to immigration detention after completing his sentence.

He was involved in several incidents in prison and immigration detention, including an episode where he grabbed a female officer by the neck and another in which he tried to headbutt staff.

U.S. — The Girl Scouts of America, in cooperation with the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, MI, unveiled a new Muslim badge girls could earn by getting married before the age of 8.

Because of the strict age requirement, the Muslim badge can only be earned by Daisies and Brownies. Other program levels are ineligible for the coveted new badge.

GSUSA President Telva McGruder said, "Islamophobia is a growing problem, and we want to do our part to teach our Girl Scouts about what it really means to be tolerant, which is why we will be offering a Muslim badge to any girl who, before the age of 8, finds a nice Muslim man to settle down with."

As a sort of consolation prize, older members can earn a less prestigious Islam badge for memorizing the Five Pillars of Islam and waging jihad. This is meant to help other girls feel included in the fight against Islamophobia, even if they are too old to get married and, therefore, worthless.

Some parents expressed concern over the new badge, calling it "really inappropriate." They have since been expelled from the organization.

At publishing time, the Girl Scouts announced they will no longer be offering the Muslim badge after all their married girls were forced to quit the organization by their new husbands.

Ah.

So you don't know what 'misogyny' is.

Just as I suspected.

Misogyny is the hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women or girls.

Definition and Core Concepts

Meaning:

The word comes from the Greek roots misein (meaning "to hate") and gynē (meaning "woman").

Distinction:

While sexism is broader discrimination or stereotyping based on sex, misogyny specifically involves active hostility, bias, or disdain toward women.

Patriarchy:

It often functions to maintain social systems where men hold primary power and women are marginalized or controlled.

Manifestations

Everyday Behavior:

Belittling opinions, mocking intelligence, enforcing rigid gender roles, and sexual objectification.

Online Harassment:

Trolling, digital stalking, and abusive remarks directed disproportionately at women on the internet.

Systemic and Physical Harm:

Domestic violence, sexual harassment, assault, and extreme acts like femicide.
Recent research also highlights growing concerns around misogynistic attitudes surfacing in schools and digital spaces.

Yes, Bobby.

Thanks for admitting to your mistake.

It could be argued that his actions were sexist, not mysoginistic.

As you were.
