Beautiful people and this catastrophe was undeserving. I was astounded at the before and after photos Bobby showed us. It’s just so heart breaking. The power of all that water/mud/debris building up so fast to knock buildings out like that! It’s going to be very very sad the amount of missing persons that will be searched for. Cry

This has been happening for the past decade somewhere in monsoon season all over the Himalayas.

Population growth, mass tourism, flash floods. Early warning systems aren't going to cut it.

I've been all around Nepal 🇳🇵 in the 90s.
They've deforested 90% of the upper Himalayas and many landslides have been the cause of this. So desperate for firewood to keep warm. Yak dung to burn is in high demand

The factor should have been treated as an earthquake which will have consequences and the instant drill measures of evacuations should have been implemented strait away regardless.

Initial reports from Nepalese officials suggested that an earthquake could have caused the lower part of a glacier to collapse, triggering the floods. But the US Geological Survey later said that the 4.4-magnitude tremor recorded at the time was caused by glacial rock and ice collapsing onto the valley floor, causing a water avalanche.

It's fairdinkum & in a mountainous region where this has happened before but maybe not as big.

If you see pictures - people have become too complacent & have built right down close to river bed levels that do not allow for large ice/snow melts that can swell these river valleys at any time.

Now of course the climate alarmists will be using this as fodder for their agenda.

Yes & the movement in the Himalayas is to be expected as they are the youngest mountains on the globe & still pushing upwards due to the tectonic plate movements.

I suppose it is the second time in 23 years that I made the same mistake. And from what I understood, other people make the same mistake in not making the turn off. I might have to do a drive down and back again sometime in the next month, to see where I went wrong.

Then again, more seriously, the Nepalese had over 10 years since their earthquake in 2015 to come up with ways to counter glaciers that crash into a river system. Perhaps you (Gnads) should have been over there bellowing out instructions on harm minimisation re: flash flooding.
