I will still be young enough to be working a job, when the government decides not to keep religious holidays. I won't even notice. I only know that it was Good Friday because the workplace paid holiday rates. People/customers will remind me, starting in November, that it will be Christmas. And I won't be rostered for Christmas Day.

Other than that, I won't know when a holiday is on. Mum and Dad's 50th wedding anniversary is coming up next month. Beyond that, I don't plan on anything else.

I don't celebrate the king's birthday. I just acknowledge that our head of state gets a designated birthday, whilst I get double time for working that day. Same with religious holidays. Pay me double time for putting up with closed shopping centres and cinemas, so that the boredom does not do me in.

The only holiday that I do respect is ANZAC Day.

I’m a committed monarchist as an Australian citizen and a very distant relative of King Charles.
But no one should be forced to live under a Monarch if they don’t like it; ever thought of moving?
