Coles Plans To Offshore Hundreds Of Jobs To India

Coles plans to offshore hundreds of corporate jobs to India   Sad

News.com.au
August 7, 2026

Australia’s second-biggest supermarket company is reportedly planning to offshore hundreds of jobs to India, just days after it was revealed another iconic local brand would do the same.   Sad

Coles plans to outsource marketing, finance, human resources and technology jobs as part of an extended deal with consultancy firm Accenture, reports the Australian Financial Review.

The outlet reported local job cuts could range from in the hundreds to more than 1000 under the deal worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Most of the positions lost would be moved to India, while some would be done by Accenture in Australia.

“We are constantly exploring partnerships that help us unlock that capability at the scale and pace we need in an increasingly competitive environment, allowing us to … move faster, and deliver for our customers,” a Coles spokesperson said.

Coles is reportedly looking at sending hundreds of jobs to India.

Coles has about 5000 roles in its corporate offices, and the prospected job cuts were not expected to impact its grocery and liquor store retail operations.

The news follows reports that up to 1000 Qantas jobs could also be sent offshore to India under the arline’s own deal with Accenture.

NewsWire reported this week a decision on whether to outsource or cut roles in marketing, finance, human resources and other back-office jobs was expected later in the year.

A Qantas spokesperson said it was “looking at ways to accelerate the use of technology and AI to help us modernise the way we work and deliver better outcomes for our customers and our people”.

“We have been exploring partnerships that have the capability to support us and are in early stage discussions with Accenture, but no formal agreement is in place and no decisions have been made,” they said.

Qantas’s plans to offshore jobs was revealed this week.

Coles’ rival Woolworths in June announced it was moving corporate jobs to Asia.

At the time, the company said its decision to offshore IT, HR and finance roles was partly influenced by rising competition in the market.

“To continue our commitment to deliver the dependable low prices and better shopping experiences our customers expect, and to remain competitive with the rapid expansion of international players in the market, we are focused on removing complexity, increasing productivity and driving efficiency across our business,” a spokesperson said.

Coles and Woolworths are facing some increased competition in the form of tech giant Amazon’s recent partnership with Harris Farm to offer same-day delivery groceries.

Woolworths has also planned to send jobs overseas.

The deal launched in January saw 55,000 non-perishable grocery items and everyday essentials available to purchase from the Amazon website.

Amazon is already a major player in the US grocery market and has been making strides in Australia in recent years.

Customers?   Grin

They meant to say 'shareholders'.

If you can work from home your job can be outsourced overseas

I had a job where we had to use GPS to show our location and find the customers.... Oh, okay, I worked Uber Eats. We signed in to the app and used it for the sake of convenience in reducing delivery times. On occasion, the GPS would send us the wrong way.

Trying to get head office technical support to deal with glitches in our workplace apps is so arduous, given the recalcitrant nature of the Indian support workers. If you have a white-sounding name, they take their f***ing sweet time getting to fix the glitches. Or they don't work at all.

Strange, when there are so many ‘’white sounding names’’ in India, such as Campbell.

The 'lower costs' will not be reflected in the prices.  That's just more profit.

Meanwhile all those people turned on the streets will have to learn to handle a paddy field or something, get in touch with their inner Third Worlder.

Ah, so - we look into Accenture - producer of raw materials for Tent Cities:-

Offshore Pirate Haven Paradise... what problem?  Paying Australians too much?  How is all that job loss going to affect their market?  Is no money - is no buy...  these guys must be in the same boat as Albo - send the peons into penury ..and another perfect example of the deep intellect and empathy of women and their grasp on hard facts, eh?  Well - their grip on hard dollars, anyway....

These companies don't understand that when all their managment infrustructior has been exported there no longer remains an argument for overall managment to not be transfered to these outsourced companies. They basically already control the company from top to bottom.

Now buying Australian means no dealing with Coles.

I was involved in outsourcing meeting about 15 years ago. At the time the Indian outsourcers were talking about moving into HR finance etc. They seemed to be infering that once they controlled a business at that level it would be easy to take over that business. These greedy guys may be giving away the keys to their own survival and are just too stupid to see it.

You can only give someone else control of so much of your company before it becomes not your company and that outcome in cases like this would be well deserved.

At Woolworths many items go on special today at a higher price than their normal price 12 months ago. It's not a good deal.

Just part of the 'de-colonising' wars that go on and on with the assistance of our 'academics' these days.

Former claims of being colonised must be rectified by allowing neo-colonisation of those countries considered guilty... I remember well the Australian invasions of India and Africa and Asia and all such......

While we of the West dither about saying - "we must not view all of the same kind as being the same" - they see all of us as the Usurpers and Invaders and thus ripe for vengeance by disempowerment and occupation, and consider it a right to take advantage of us.

We are the West and therefore all equally guilty of the Amritsar Massacre.. while we strive to treat Invaders as individuals they see us as a bloc.

Very bad policy making.

Footnote:-  I genuinely fear another round of AlboGroup running the show on our behalf... there will be nothing left of Australia.

Hi white knight.

If Aussie workers can't compete with Indian workers, maybe they should lift their productivity

You mean take lower salaries?  How can they buy groceries at Coles then?

Yeah, and then the computer hacker gets into the call centre's network and brings up "Campbell's" name to be "Kumar". And he does not live in Scotland.
