Dim Tim - Your Opposition Treasurer

"Tim Wilson's Inflation Confusion Embarrasses Himself and the Liberal Party
Watching ABC Afternoon Briefing, it was difficult not to shake your head as Liberal MP Tim Wilson claimed that inflation in Australia is "getting worse."
The numbers tell a very different story.
Australia's annual inflation rate has fallen from 4.6 per cent to 3.8 per cent. That does not mean prices are falling—they are still increasing—but they are increasing at a slower rate than before. That is precisely what economists mean when they say inflation is coming down.
Yet Tim Wilson appeared to argue the exact opposite.
It raises an obvious question: does Mr Wilson genuinely misunderstand one of the most basic concepts in economics, or is he hoping viewers won't notice the difference? or he just doesn't understand economics.
For someone who presents himself as an economic spokesperson, confusing a declining inflation rate with inflation "getting worse" is an extraordinary mistake. It is the sort of claim that invites ridicule rather than confidence.
The irony is hard to ignore.
The Coalition government, of which Mr Wilson was a member, left office when inflation had surged to almost 7 per cent. Australians remember that period all too well, with soaring prices, supply chain disruptions and rapidly rising living costs.”

So if the full fuel excise had been in place, inflation would most likely have been higher than the figures announced yesterday. No?

Wow Jas, where are you located? Unleaded and 98 are still around 1.80 but diesel has gone up 60c. (Mornington peninsula in VIC).

$2.29 here yesterday.

Possibly; but the silly part about the current inflation rate in Oz is the monetary policy the RBA utilizes to control it.

Raising interest rates by the RBA won't lower the high price of fuel in Oz which is caused by the war in Iran.

Correct (because bowser prices would have been higher) but neither the treasurer nor the RBA (least of all Dim Tim) understand inflation has specific causes which need to be addressed - not by lifting interest rates which only hurt borrowers more, while lenders laugh all the way to the bank.

Not at all. I vote for whomever in my electorate that I feel will look after my interests. I have Zoe McKenzie at the moment and whilst a bit raw in Parliament she is doing a good job from Opposition. The Coalition years from 2013 were a disaster. Tony Abbott lied to the public - No Cuts to Anything. We got the world’s crappiest NBN because they would not admit Labor had the right plan - remember all those green boxes? Malcolm Turnbull had his moments but was always temporary. Everytime Julie Bishop went O/S the checque book went with her - she gave away billions. As for Morrison and Dutton - absolute abject failures at just about everything. Billions of dollars on French Submarines (cancelled) Japanese Submarines (cancelled) now the catastrophy that is AUKUS that we could not, and cannot get out of. Hunter class ships - a disaster.

Is it any wonder they got booted out with such a massive seat change. Labor have not been perfect by any means. hey have made a lot of mistakes and misread the electorate. However, they are now where near the clusterf@ck government they replaced.
