Wow. And this from the new highly educated Americans. Usually supposed to be Democrats.
I caught the measles in 1994, just before I went in to hospital for minor surgery. I had to be isolated from other patients for the time I was ill. And I was better upon the day before I was released.
It does not matter how "highly educated" you are. Airborne diseases do not discriminate. I have no reason to get vaxxed for measles now that I am immune to the disease. Chances are, there are probably a lot of Americans that experience the same and don't believe that they need to
spend money getting their children vaxxed.
The measles vax for children in the USA is free.
Parents aren't getting their kids vaccinated because Trump and Kennedy are spreading lies about vaccinations.
It has nothing to do with money or immigrants - it's 100% the rapist's fault.
Admittedly, I was assuming the cost of getting vaccinated based on the high cost of health care over in the USA. I don't know what it costs to be vaccinated against measles. I get a free influenza shot every year. But, given that I caught the flu before the vaccine was available, there was no need to go get vaccinated.
As I said, I got the measles as a teenager. I was sick for the week. I recovered fantastically. It is not something that needs to be a concern, unless you have compromised immunity. In those situations, you should be getting the vaccine. Otherwise, you might as well enjoy your immunity to the disease from here onwards. This is correct. Measles once had, then immunity from it.
Now, here’s my 2 bubs, I had them fully immunised and with MMR etc
Why did my son get so sick with measles? I was horrified! I thought he was immunised against getting it.
He developed a high fever, was hallucinating and didn’t recognise me!
I asked the doctor how did this happen, I thought he would be better protected.
He mumbled but didn’t give me a clear answer.
It took a while for my son to recover and then I noticed changes …he was 3 yrs old and knew the alphabet as I taught him, it seemed to have gone into oblivion after his measles illness.
My husband, had all his childhood immunisation and I did too.
Our parents were very diligent following doctors orders.
Husband at age 6 got so ill with measles, doctor was a bit “brush off” with his mum as if she was a hypochondriac.
Eventually his mum presented her ill son in hospital.
You know what they said to her….”this child is very ill and should’ve been hospitalised earlier!”
Wanted to know who her GP was.
He had developed meningitis from measles.
It’s in the years that followed, and when we courted, he said he couldn’t remember his childhood.
So his memory from baby to 6 years of age were wiped!
(I can tell you even in my time as mum being in rural area there weren’t many doctors, and not very good at that)
Now, chicken pox, I’ve had the vax. I got chicken pox. I recall my young brother did.
My kids got it too! School age. What the ?
And me at age 42 got shingles! (The same virus that causes chicken pox) It was so bad!
Apparently that can come around every 30 years!
Hopefully they have better viral meds now if I get it again!
