Dick Smith / Kogan data breach
Jul 14th, 2026 at 3:19pm

I was advised today via Google that my password at Dick Smith was compromised by a data breach and I should change my password there ASAP.

That I did, and sadly, there is no way to delete the account other than contacting Dick Smith support.

I did so and they came back saying that before deleting my account, was I aware that:

Deleting your account will also permanently remove access to the following:

• Account credits
• Redeemed eVouchers
• Personalised discount codes
• Qantas Frequent Flyer information
• Order history and invoices
• FIRST benefits

To which I replied:

Thanks for the info, please go ahead and permanently delete my account.

In these matters, I take a one strike and you're out approach.

If others here have accounts with Dick Smith / Kogan, you may want to change your password as a precaution.

Captain Nemo, OP,

The 'retained integrity' of our personal data today [i.e. in this age], seems to be almost impossible to achieve.
......and that circumstance, when almost all of our personal information is [required to be] transacted 'digitally' today.

It is wrong [i.e. the risks we must be exposed to].

And it is wrong....because [even when 'bad actors' are 'caught' and/or identified], there seem to be no serious consequences.
......for wrong doing.

Just.....a perfunctory 'slap on the wrist'.  ?

I didn't know that Dick Smith was still even trading as such?
