Any commercial drone operator amongst us?
Jul 11th, 2026 at 12:05am

I’ve been informed by she he owns the business that I will be taking a commercial drone license course.

rePL?

And adding value to her business by developing a niche product for our customers.

I was then handed a dji matrox 230 drone in a suitcase and told go figure it out.

I obviously work in a vibrant workplace 🤣

My question are-

Does anyone know how to fly a drone?

And more importantly is this a hint from my employer I’m getting to old to run?

I seriously feel it’s a backhanded promotion with no extra pay but she pays for the course and the drone.

I don’t put it past her that she’s choosing me to just piss one of the younger guys off.

Management often works in mysterious ways!

I haven’t even taken it out of its suitcase.

I don’t think I’m going to get my head around it.

I love flying kites!

I fly a drone but not for commercial use.

You might be overthinking it though. Its no different to driving a car.

If you still have the ability to learn then it should be easy to master, but get your mindset right first, being negative about it is only going to make it harder.

Ok, good advice .

I will read the manual and then consider opening the suitcase.

It’s just not something I ever thought I’d be using.

First flights will definitely be far away from civilisation!

Just find an open space on a non-windy day to get the hang of it...  I've got one and  it takes practice to get it right, but it will come to you... like flying a brand new aircraft... just little steps...  run it up and down without doing more than low level 'hops' first and just get the 'feel' of it ... gradually build up to full flights...

Flying in a newly built/bought aircraft properly takes two days of first ground runs then lift and put down etc... then tiny hops - just to make sure nothing is set wrong or out of whack ... then some short runs without anything fancy, and finally work up to checking the handling in the air via the controls...

Same deal really.

Just up and down in the backyard first and get used of the controls.

Just go slow and don't try and go fast.
