On Facebook - but it's playing up again:-

"Today was a really positive day for the brumbies, and we just wanted to thank everyone who came along and showed their support.
We started the day with a rally outside NSW Parliament before heading inside for the Legislative Assembly debate.  It was wonderful to see so many people there.   The public gallery was completely full.
The petition has now been debated by the Legislative Assembly and will move on to the Legislative Council in September, where it will be debated in more detail.
This is an important step forward, but it doesn't mean the fight is over.
Sadly, the aerial cull has not been stopped and is expected to recommence in November.
Ground shooting is continuing, and the emergency injunction before the Land and Environment Court is still being processed.  We will keep everyone updated as that progresses.
Today reminded us that there are so many compassionate people who care deeply about these beautiful brumbies. Every person who attended the rally, sat in the gallery, signed a petition, wrote to their MP or simply shared information has helped bring it to this point."

What about some concern for the poor bloody rabbits?

Myxomatosis brings on a horrible death

‘’’Myxomatosis is a severe, usually fatal viral disease caused by the myxoma virus, affecting European rabbits. It is spread by biting insects like mosquitoes and fleas, or via direct contact. The disease causes rapid swelling, discharge around the eyes and face, and high mortality, typically killing infected domestic rabbits within 10 to 14 days.’’

Apparently all feral pests are not accorded the same degree of compassion.

That’s not the point, one of the biggest objections to brumby culling is cruelty so why is such absolute cruelty allowed in the eradication of rabbits?

Farmer/Graziers/recreational horse riders animals break their legs in rabbit holes .....

so stuff the rabbits

Quote:
Feral rabbits cause an estimated AUD $200 million to $217 million in agricultural production losses each year

So tens of billions since 1859 .... as well as land degradation & erosion.

That’s not the point, one of the biggest objections to brumby culling is cruelty so why is such absolute cruelty allowed in the eradication of rabbits?
Seems a mite hypocritical.

If one person caused the same level of cruelty to one rabbit there would be wide contempt and prosecution at law.

Because of the magnitude of the rabbit population - the logistics to do it any other way would not be possible - as well as cost. So biological controls were the go.

Do you have the same concern for rats & mice?

Pet rabbits are not the wild variety.

It is illegal to keep any kind of rabbit in QLD.

A good law - saves dealing with pet hoarder people over animal cruelty incidents.

Actually I agree, but that doesn’t remove the hypocrisy.
It would seem that cruelty is OK if any other way would be uneconomic or in the ‘’to hard’’ basket

A sufficiently high bounty , to be paid on severed heads or pairs of hind feet for instance.
It would cost a lot of money, but any country that can project a payout of 300 billion+ dollars for steam submariners could afford it.

Depends on how they are slaughtered, shot whilst grazing is considered to be the best and then hung for at least three days.

Yes Sir Eoin. That's why I prefer my speared fish over 🪝 hooked fish. Less stress hormones gutting the quality of taste.

Not enough people who are registered gun owners or hunters.

The last 1 licensed in NSW & his unlicensed son went hunting at Bondi & bagged 15 Jews out of season.

Caused all sorts of problems for everyone else but the elephant in the room.

Just posted this elsewhere:-

Just watching the News 24 interview of the chancellor of Western Sydney University, who was refused the opportunity, after submitting a lucid written discussion paper, to speak and lay out her reasoning to the Royal Commission into Anti-Semitism.

The Chancellor made the point, using comparisons with the treatment of gays in different countries – that you cannot accept one form of what she called 'hatred' in one form and place without accepting the right of hatred to exist in other areas – that if you accept 'hatred' for any reason, for example of destroying wildlife by first shooting and then poisoning - moving to the extinction of specified groups of Humans is not a difference in kind, but in the group focused on and of degree of impact.

THAT is what I have been trying to put across with my references to Nazis and mass murders by shooting and using poisons, and 'justifying' this by using propaganda and outright lies – including playing the victim.

Once you let go of your essential Humanity – you become the very beast you are claiming to seek to eradicate for whatever reason.

By accepting the 'righteousness' of exterminating wildlife in a specified national park at the behest of the 'minister' acting under the Fuhrerprinzip, wherein the order is given by the leader using whatever standards the leader chooses and is then obeyed and even defended without question – we would be opening the door to a form of governance that is not only unacceptable to We of the West, but is reprehensible to us as Human Beings of the Civilised Tribes.

Complex issue grap.

I don't support gut shooting a horse and letting it die over 3 days as it's starving foal stands next to it.

But horses do damage fragile ecosystems.

Feral donkeys and camels in the centre of australia would also need attention.

But it should be humane

I don't think there's an example of wild horses actually destroying a fragile environment... the Planet Of The Apes scarecrows called wind generators and the trails they need to even exist is destroying many thousands of hectares of natural environment.

Got me eye on a property - no money though - near the Range up northern NSW there - plan is for a Sanctuary for brumbies and wildlife, and veterans in trouble and good people in trouble... hour or two from your holding...

Thanks for caring, Grap.   Too many people don't.

The last Silver Brumby stallion was inhumanely killed the other day.  It's unnecessary and heartbreaking and I sincerely hope that lying cow Penny Sharpe pays for her sins.

At what point did humans (sic) start to believe they knew better how to handle Nature than Nature?

Populations are self-governing.

What in the name of Dog is the purpose in culling kangaroos and koalas?  Kangaroos hardly eat out crops either... and koalas... well - some dickweed said online in support of a policy of killing them, that they were endangering their own ecosystem by living..... ummm... yeah, man... more likely the falcon developments and power lines and wind generators destroying millions of hectares are endangering their ecosystems.

I've said it before - we have deer and wild horses around here ... neither eat out farm crops since there are none, unlike maybe fifty years ago... their impact on the environment is hardly noticeable... one or two deer have been hit by cars - it's a country road to here and people either drive like funeral directors or like racing car drivers... hitting wildlife - and sometimes posts and fences - is inevitable at times - it distresses me when it happens to me... but I know that it had to be unavoidable.

More people are killed and injured from single car bad judgement accidents than by any wildlife here.

Note:-  where I had my country retreat, one local had a cornfield - the roos got in and ate leaves... he didn't bother, since they didn't eat the corn.

What is the purpose in exterminating the wild deer around here, let alone the wild horses?

When Australians decided to get rid of rabbits would be a good starting point.

If its cheap in big portions like i get local Roo & Venison
Then yeah... if its up to good taste like those two.
Water Buffalo is the best tasting. Real natural smoked flavour. But hard to get from way up north NT and usually at Boutique rip off prices if sold down south here.

Brumbies gone Feral ruin the land just like Deer, Pigs & Camel.
Feral Cats, Dogs, Toads, etc ruin other species.

Its not like we can introduce Wolves, Bears and other big predators to keep these pests in check. So eradication and Hunting is the only current answer.

Brumbies are OK, if kept on properties, but not Wild.

When Meat prices rose around 2011-14. Camel became very popular in the Riverina when i lived there. 3 times as much, for 1/2 the price and a very soft and delicious meat compared to overrated Beef & Lamb.
